The Alberta Teaching Profession
Commission (ATPC) seeks an experienced senior-level professional to analyze and define complex regulatory matters, develop recommendations, and contribute to the integrity of Alberta’s teaching profession.
Key Responsibilities Complaint Assessment and Preliminary Analysis to Support Regulatory Decision‑Making - Analyze complaints of alleged unprofessional conduct and/or professional incompetence of Alberta certificated teachers and teacher leaders.
- Conduct preliminary inquiries, draft allegation statements, verify information, gather additional evidence, and assess relevance of information gathered through interviews with complainants and teachers.
- Evaluate completed investigation, mediation, and dispute resolution reports related to teacher and teacher leader conduct.
Technical
Advice and Regulatory Recommendations - Provide technical advice and draft decisions for coordination with the Manager, Director, Executive Director, and the Commissioner within operational and legislative timelines.
- Ensure recommendations meet legislative and procedural requirements in alignment with case law and precedent.
- Deliver written advice on complaints and the Commissioner’s decision‑making process, employing advanced writing skills and a precedent‑based approach.
- Measure progress, communicate risks,
and provide practical solutions to deliver high‑quality deliverables.
Strategic
Contribution to Regulatory Excellence - Support the Skilled Assurance team by promoting best practices and strategies that enhance teacher and teacher leader conduct and competency.
- Attend appeal hearings of alleged unprofessional conduct and/or professional incompetence, under guidance from leadership or legal counsel.
- Prepare briefings and recommendations to inform executive decision‑making and operationalization of policy.

Qualifications University graduation in a related field (Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, etc.), plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
Education or experience may be equated on a one‑for‑one basis.
Advanced
Knowledge and Skills – Advanced writing and communication, understanding of natural justice and administrative law, analytical judgment, operational policy compliance, application of complex legislation and case precedents, and efficient caseload, task, and time management. Assets – Experience within the Government of Alberta; human resources or labour relations; adaptability in writing style;
experience with regulated professions and quasi‑judicial processes; proficiency in Microsoft 365, SharePoint and digital case management software. Open‑ended salary and compensation are commensurate with experience and the responsibility of the position.
