Who We Are Vanderwell is an Alberta, family-owned company operating in northern Alberta for more than 80 years. We have a modern sawmill, planer mill, and pellet mill facilities, which produce dimensional lumber, wood pellets, shavings, and chips for wholesale customers. We’re a major employer in the local region, we have more than 150 employees working throughout the operation -- mill production, sales & shipping, woodlands, truck and mobile equipment shops, and administration.

Contract and part-time employees are also employed in maintenance, transportation, and seasonal activities.

The Prospect Job Duties

We are currently looking to hire a Sawmill and Kiln Forklift Operator for our manufacturing facilities near Slave Lake, Alberta.

Job duties include: Operating a Taylor Forklift and/ or a CAT 966 Forklift Wheel Loader

Moving rough lumber from sawmill outfeed to kiln carts.

Changing dry kiln charges.

Moving dried lumber from kiln carts to yard stockpiles.

Performing routine maintenance on forklifts and loaders.





Adhere to Vanderwell’s written safety, maintenance, and inspection programs Working Conditions Exposed to vehicular traffic, noise, vibration, moving machinery, weather extremes, slipping and tripping hazards

Lifting heavy, awkward objects and climbing on equipment may be required

Required use of PPE appropriate for the task and working conditions Must Have Two (2) years experience running equipment, preferably larger forklifts and loaders or heavy equipment.

A solid work ethic, be eager to learn, and be a team player.

Excellent situational awareness.

Ability to manage time and plan ahead to constructively manage workflow in a high paced production environment.

Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

A valid class 5 driver's license is required.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Experience with lumber kilns is considered an asset.
