CREM Canada is seeking an experienced Senior Excavator Operator to join our team. This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced demolition professional with extensive heavy equipment operating experience and the ability to lead field operations while working closely with project managers, supervisors, subcontractors, and clients.

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Senior Excavator Operator to lead demolition operations on commercial, industrial, and institutional projects throughout Ontario.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating 20–30 tonne excavators equipped with demolition attachments while coordinating field activities from project mobilization through completion. This position combines hands-on equipment operation with site leadership and project coordination.
You will work closely with project managers, engineers, consultants, municipalities, subcontractors, trucking companies, and demolition crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
This position requires travel throughout Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate 20–30 tonne excavators for commercial, industrial, and institutional demolition projects.
- Perform structural demolition using hydraulic breakers, demolition grapples, hydraulic thumbs, buckets, and other demolition attachments.
- Operate loaders, skid steers, backhoes, dozers, and other heavy equipment as required.
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, loading trucks, material handling, and site preparation.
- Lead demolition activities and coordinate day-to-day site operations.
- Manage demolition projects from mobilization through final completion.
- Develop demolition plans by reviewing architectural drawings, structural drawings, engineering reports, demolition drawings, and project specifications.
- Plan demolition sequencing, manpower requirements, logistics, equipment allocation, trucking, and project schedules.
- Supervise demolition crews, operators, subcontractors, truck drivers, and suppliers.
- Coordinate trucking, haulage, recycling, waste removal, and disposal operations.
- Conduct site assessments to identify structural hazards and implement safe demolition procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Occupational Health & Safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
- Lead daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, consultants, municipalities, utility companies, and clients throughout each project.
- Monitor project budgets, production rates, labour productivity, schedules, and equipment utilization.
- Prepare daily reports, equipment logs, production reports, progress updates, and project documentation.
- Resolve field issues while maintaining project timelines and profitability.
- Manage procurement of demolition equipment, materials, and subcontractor services.
- Load demolition debris into trucks and coordinate material recycling and disposal.
- Perform daily inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of excavators and demolition attachments.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and project specifications.
- Report equipment defects and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
- Travel to project sites throughout Ontario as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of commercial demolition experience.
- Minimum 3 years operating excavators in commercial construction or demolition.
- Extensive experience operating 20–30 tonne excavators.
- Experience operating:
- Hydraulic Breakers (Hammers)
- Demolition & Sorting Grapples
- Hydraulic Thumbs
- Demolition Buckets
- Experience demolishing commercial, industrial, or institutional buildings.
- Experience with structural demolition and demolition sequencing.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine equipment inspections and basic troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and demolition drawings.
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supervising demolition crews and subcontractors.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence.
- Willingness to travel throughout Ontario.
Preferred Qualifications
- Heavy Equipment Operator Certification
- Working at Heights Certification
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- AZ or DZ Driver's Licence (considered an asset)
- Experience operating Caterpillar excavators and other major equipment brands.
- Experience with concrete crushing, recycling, and material recovery.
- Experience working around underground utilities.
- Experience using project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar software.
