Job description:

· Lead and promote a culture where Health & Safety is the highest priority.

· Ensure compliance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act (TSSA), Operating Engineers Regulation, Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), environmental regulations, and all applicable codes and standards.

· Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, SQF, BRC, LOTO, and company food safety programs.

· Supervise, mentor, schedule, train, and evaluate Operating Engineers and utility personnel.

· Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.

· Operate, monitor, and oversee the maintenance of packaged steam boilers, steam distribution systems, condensate systems, ammonia refrigeration systems, condensers, compressed air systems (high-pressure reciprocating and low-pressure screw compressors), air dryers, RO and UV water treatment systems, fire sprinkler systems, and other plant utility equipment.

· Ensure protected, reliable, and uninterrupted operation of all utility systems to support production.

· Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all utility equipment.

· Plan and coordinate maintenance shutdowns, equipment inspections, repairs, and overhauls.

· Troubleshoot complex equipment failures and lead root cause investigations to prevent recurrence.

· Manage capital improvement projects from planning through commissioning, including contractor coordination and project execution.

· Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets while identifying opportunities for cost savings.

· Monitor utility consumption and implement energy management initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.

· Manage spare parts inventory and critical equipment to ensure plant reliability.

· Maintain accurate operating logs, maintenance records, regulatory documentation,



and equipment history using the CMMS.

· Perform and oversee water treatment testing, boiler chemistry monitoring, and utility system performance.

· Maintain and inspect the facility fire sprinkler system and associated equipment.

· Support internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and customer audits.

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, efficiency, quality, and sustainability.

· Provide technical support to Maintenance, Production, Quality, and Engineering departments.

· Respond to plant emergencies and provide leadership during equipment failures or abnormal operating conditions.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Valid Ontario Second Class Operating Engineer Certificate of Qualification (required).

· Minimum five (5) years of industrial operating engineering experience, including experience supervising operating engineers or maintenance personnel.

· Food and beverage manufacturing experience is preferred.

· Strong knowledge of steam generation, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air systems, HVAC, water treatment, boiler chemistry, fire protection systems, and plant utilities.

· Thorough knowledge of TSSA regulations, Operating Engineers Regulation, ESA requirements, OHSA, environmental legislation, and food safety standards.

· Experience developing preventive maintenance programs and managing utility operations.

· Experience leading capital projects, contractor management, budgeting, and energy management initiatives.

· Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

· Ability to read and interpret P&IDs;, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.

· Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

· Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and respond to emergencies as required.

Pay: $45.00-$55.00 per hour
