We are a well-established and growing construction organization with operations across multiple sectors of the construction industry. As our organization continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller / Senior Accountant to lead our accounting functions and support the financial success of the business.

This position is in-office and offers an opportunity to become an integral member of a growing leadership team.

Position Summary

The Controller / Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization while providing accurate financial reporting, budgeting support, cash flow management, and financial analysis. Working closely with senior leadership and operations teams, this role ensures strong financial controls, efficient processes, and accurate project costing information to support informed business decisions.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to

- Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Oversee job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project profitability analysis
- Reconcile accounts and ensure accuracy of financial records
- Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external accountants and auditors
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory requirements
- Monitor banking activities, credit facilities, and cash management
- Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures




- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency
- Support management with financial reporting, KPI tracking, and strategic decision-making
- Assist with financing, bonding requirements, and insurance reporting
- Supervise and mentor accounting team members
- Participate in system improvements and process optimization initiatives
- Other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

- CPA designation preferred or working toward completion
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP schedules, and project-based financial reporting
- Experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end close processes
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards, payroll, HST, and corporate taxation requirements
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
