A Taleo client located in Calgary is in need of an experienced Server Administrator with 7–10+ years of enterprise IT infrastructure experience. This is a contract role in a part-time capacity of 3 days a week in office. The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft server environments, virtualization platforms, storage systems, Active Directory, and hybrid cloud technologies.

While networking knowledge is important, this role is primarily focused on the administration, optimization, security, and lifecycle management of server infrastructure and business-critical systems.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the availability, security, and performance of the organization's server environment while supporting ongoing cloud adoption initiatives and infrastructure modernization.

Roles and Responsibilities

Administer, maintain, and optimize Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure, including Windows Server 2019/2022 or later.

Manage core infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, DFS, replication, and identity services.

Administer Hyper-V clusters, virtual machines, failover clustering, and virtualization infrastructure.

Manage enterprise storage infrastructure including SAN technologies, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, storage provisioning, and capacity planning.

Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, data protection, and retention strategies for on-premises and cloud-based systems.

Support the migration, administration, and optimization of hybrid and cloud-based infrastructure, including Microsoft 365 and Azure services.

Administer Microsoft Exchange (on-premises and Exchange Online), email archiving, secure email gateways, and messaging services.

Monitor, troubleshoot, and proactively optimize server performance, availability, and capacity.

Plan and manage server hardware refreshes,



operating system upgrades, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

Work closely with the IT Manager to maintain secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure while continuously improving operational efficiency.

Maintain system documentation, infrastructure diagrams, operational procedures, and disaster recovery documentation.

Provide Tier 3 technical support for server, virtualization, storage, and infrastructure-related incidents.

Research, recommend, and implement infrastructure improvements that align with business objectives.

Collaborate with business stakeholders and IT teams to design and implement new infrastructure solutions.

Assist with administration of network infrastructure, firewalls, switches, VPN connectivity, and related services as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and ExperienceServer & Infrastructure

7–10+ years of enterprise systems administration experience.

Advanced experience administering Microsoft Windows Server 2019/2022 or later.

Strong expertise with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, PowerShell, Windows Updates, and enterprise identity services.

Extensive experience managing Hyper-V environments, Failover Clustering, and enterprise virtualization.

Experience administering Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and published applications.

Experience with Windows imaging, deployment, and server lifecycle management.

Strong understanding of enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.





Experience administering SAN environments, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, storage provisioning, and storage performance optimization.

Experience managing Microsoft Exchange 2016/2019, Exchange Online, email archiving, and eDiscovery.

Experience administering Microsoft 365 services including Teams, SharePoint Online, and hybrid identity solutions.

Experience migrating workloads from on-premises infrastructure to Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.

Cloud & Security

Experience administering hybrid cloud environments and Microsoft Azure infrastructure.

Experience implementing server hardening, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and security best practices.

Understanding of identity, access management, MFA, conditional access, and server security.

Experience with backup and recovery solutions for both on-premises and cloud workloads.

Networking (Supporting Skills)

Positive understanding of enterprise networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, VPNs, and switching.

Experience supporting Fortinet or Palo Alto firewalls.

Familiarity with HP/Aruba switching infrastructure and network troubleshooting.

Ability to work with networking teams to support server connectivity, performance, and security.

Professional Skills

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex infrastructure issues.

Experience working in large, geographically distributed enterprise environments.

Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high service availability.

A dependable team player with a strong commitment to integrity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Demonstrated ability to challenge legacy practices, recommend innovative solutions, and drive operational efficiencies.
