About this Opportunity The Nunavut Department of Education, Kivalliq School Operations, invites applications for the position of Student Support Teacher.

As a teacher with student support responsibilities (SST) in Nunavut, you will support student learning through culturally respectful and inclusive practice. You will work collaboratively with the school team to develop, implement, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to foster student growth, development, and wellness.

Located in the picturesque hamlet of Coral Harbour, Nunavut, Sakku School serves the local community. The school has a population of approximately 340 students in a K-12 setting with a staff of 40. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.

Required Qualifications





Education & Certification

- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A Special Education Certificate/degree or equivalent courses is considered an asset
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience
- Experience as a Special Education / Student Support Teacher is considered an asset
- Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut

(International educated teachers who do not hold a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through

Pathways to Teach Canada)

- Experience teaching in a bilingual or ESL environment

Candidates are not expected to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centred education are valued.

Student Support & Special Education Expertise

- Experience collaborating with classroom teachers to develop and implement individual student support plans with exceptionalities
- Experience in mentoring staff to support positive behaviour and help create and maintain a safe learning environment

Language and Cultural Assets

- Ability to communicate in Inuktitut (verbal and written).
- Experience supporting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
- Experience teaching in cross-cultural, or northern-Canada contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development (e.g., Balanced

Literacy Strategies)

- Experience in creating a positive learning environment using classroom management practices and approaches (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positives

Effective Behavior Supports)

- Experience in mentoring staff to support positive behaviour and help create and maintain a protected learning environment

Relationships & Student Engagement

- Experience in fostering student wellbeing and engagement
- Experience in engaging with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families,

colleagues, and stakeholders

Collaboration & Professional Practice

- Experience collaborating and coordinating with Education Support Service

Providers (e.g., Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists,

Psychologists)

- Experience connecting with community-based support,



such as Family Services and Community Mental Health
- Experience leading and facilitating professional development sessions based on individual and group needs

Technology Integration

- Experience managing accessibility equipment (ATL-assistive technology for learning devices, Phonak equipment, lifts, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Coral Harbour, Nunavut: $23,147

•Subsidized Housing: Available but sharing may be required.

Conditions of Employment

- Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid

Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut

Department of Education. Applications that do not include this documentation will not be considered.
