Location: Cape St. Francis Elementary
Job type: Part-time, school-year position
Regular schedule: Monday to Friday, 1:35 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
PD/PL Day schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Employment term: September to June annually
Job Overview
We are seeking a caring, dependable and enthusiastic School-Age Certified Early Childhood Educator to join our team at Cape St. Francis Elementary.
The successful candidate will support the daily delivery of the LearnStar program from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. This individual will help create a protected, respectful and inclusive environment where school-age children feel supported, engaged and welcomed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide attentive supervision and care for school-age children.
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate activities and programming.
- Support children with homework, educational activities and positive social development.
- Use positive guidance strategies and respond to children’s individual needs.
- Create an environment that promotes safety, belonging, inclusion and positive development.
- Maintain required attendance, program and incident documentation.
- Follow all licensing requirements and LearnStar policies and procedures.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and support the health and safety of all participants.
- Communicate professionally with children, families, school staff and LearnStar team members.
- Assist with daily program setup, organization and cleanup.
- Work collaboratively with the Administrator and other program staff.
- Participate in full-day programming on scheduled PD and PL days.
Required Education and Certification
- Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education
- Level I School-Age ECE certification recognized in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Current Emergency First Aid certificate, including CPR (one-day course).
- Valid Criminal Record Check.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current immunization record.

Physical Requirements
This position requires regular physical activity while supervising and caring for children. The successful candidate must be able to consistently guide and assist children, maintain balance, kneel, bend and move quickly when necessary. The role may also require lifting or carrying program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
