The Prospect
The City of Greater Sudbury is currently seeking a Return to Work Specialist to lead disability and attendance case management and partner with employees, leaders, healthcare providers, unions, and external agencies to achieve safe, timely, and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.
Reporting to the Manager of Health, Safety, and Return to Work Services, you'll play an important role in supporting employee wellness, ensuring legislative compliance, and fostering a healthy, inclusive workplace.
What You'll Do
- Manage occupational and non-occupational disability and attendance cases, including WSIB claims.
- Develop and coordinate individualized Early and Safe Return to Work and workplace accommodation plans.
- Partner with employees, supervisors, healthcare professionals, unions, and insurers to support successful return-to-work outcomes.
- Represent the City at WSIB appeals and hearings, preparing documentation and presenting management's case.
- Provide guidance on disability management, attendance, accommodations, and legislative requirements.
- Deliver education and training on return-to-work programs, WSIB, and workplace legislation.
- Maintain accurate case records,
claims data, reports, and cost tracking while identifying opportunities to reduce claim costs.
What You Bring
- A College Diploma in Human Resources, Nursing, Social Services, or a related field.
- At least three (3) years of experience managing WSIB claims, disability management, and attendance programs, preferably in a large unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and related legislation.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, analytical, and organizational skills.
- The ability to build trusted relationships and manage complex cases with confidence and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with PeopleSoft, Parklane, and/or Disability Management certification is considered an asset.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- French verbal skills are highly desirable.
- A valid Class G driver's licence with an acceptable driving record.

Salary and Additional Benefits
The salary range for this position is $85,960.35 to $101,197.53 per annum (subject to review*). We also offer a comprehensive health benefits plan (100 per cent employer-paid), an OMERS pension plan, life insurance, an Employee Assistance Program and more.
We provide a supportive work environment that promotes work-life integration. This position is eligible for hybrid work.
Additional Notes
This role may be filled as a development opportunity if a fully qualified candidate is not identified. Salary will reflect a developmental range until qualifications are met.
