Prairie Waves Swim School is looking for an experienced, confident swim instructor to join our team this fall.
We specialize in private and semi-private swim lessons for children ages 2 up to adults, with a strong focus on water safety, confidence, and individualized instruction. We are looking for an instructor who enjoys working with young children and takes pride in building strong relationships with families.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has at least 2–3 years of swim instruction experience
- Has experience teaching private lessons and adapting lessons to individual swimmers
- Is confident teaching toddlers and preschool-aged children
- Has experience teaching a variety of skill levels, from beginners to advanced swimmers
- Is comfortable communicating with parents before and after lessons
- Can work independently and make sound decisions during lessons
- Is reliable, professional, and passionate about helping children succeed
Experience with any of the following is considered an asset:
- Teaching neurodivergent children or children with additional support needs
- Baby & Me or parent-and-tot classes
- Previous experience with private swim schools
- Lifesaving Society or Swim for Life instructor certifications

Duties
- Lead structured swimming lessons tailored to various age groups and skill levels, from beginners to advanced swimmers
- Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and water safety practices with clarity and patience
- Assess each student’s progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to encourage improvement
- Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing pool rules and responding promptly to emergencies or incidents
- Prepare lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and adapt activities to meet individual needs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pool workplace at all times
- Foster a fun, inclusive atmosphere that motivates students to develop confidence in the water
Qualifications
- Proven experience in teaching swimming or related water instruction preferred
- Strong swimming skills with the ability to perform various strokes confidently and safely
- Excellent communication skills to effectively instruct and motivate learners of diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of water safety standards, rescue techniques, and first aid procedures
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and passionate about teaching others how to swim
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends as needed
- Certification in lifeguarding or water safety instruction, CPR-C/First Aid.
Compensation: Starting at $21/hour, wage is dependent on qualifications and experience. If you're passionate about teaching and enjoy helping children gain confidence in the water, we'd love to hear from you!
