As part of HDR’s Transportation Business Group, you will help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. From designing resilient highways and iconic bridges to advancing transit, passenger and freight rail, aviation, and federal transportation ports and marine infrastructure, your work directly supports economic vitality, public safety, and quality of life.

Primary Responsibilities - Oversee the daily operations and continued growth of the highway and municipal roadway design group, reporting to the Transportation Business Group Manager Eastern Canada.

- Lead and develop the Department sections – Design and Delivery for Roads, Roadway Transit, Transportation Hydraulics, and CAD/BIM – and expand them in response to market demands.
- Provide leadership and direction to staff in collaboration with executive, market sector, business class, and practice leaders. Inform corporate teams of staffing and skill‑training needs.
- Ensure department meets business indicators and plans, including workload management, utilization, project earnings, profit, and bookings.
- Participate in the annual plan and budget for target growth goals.
- Ensure project work within the department is properly planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through the proactive project‑management system.
- Communicate, implement, and monitor department procedures, processes, and adherence to corporate policies and contractual terms.
- Oversee project staffing and workload balancing across Canada.




- Improve technical competencies and product quality to meet client needs.
- Manage hiring, performance evaluation, staff development, training, recognition, and retention.
- Act as Principal‑in‑Charge/Senior Project Manager/Quality Manager on projects in addition to operations and business development responsibilities.
- Represent the Quality Program, participate in risk‑management reviews, business reviews, and dispute resolution activities.
- Leverage a broad network in the transportation industry, especially the Ministry of Transportation – Ontario.
- Support teaming discussions and relationships with industry counterparts, focusing on provincial and municipal clients in the roads and highways market.
- Engage in industry associations and serve as a company role‑model in business and community organizations.
- Develop effective pursuit teams, align priority pursuits to strengths of the department staff, support strategy, participate in pursuit activities, and contribute to proposal writing and fee estimates.
- Serve as a client manager for selected clients and maintain trusted relationships.

Preferred Qualifications - Active engagement in professional or industry associations.

- RAQS approval or ability to obtain approval.
- Proven track record leading provincial and municipal roadway projects.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience implementing BIM processes for linear infrastructure and establishing digital standards at scale.





Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.

- 10 years of experience.
- Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- Professional or engineering registration with relevant technical experience.
- Experience developing and managing diverse teams.
- Ability to work cooperatively with business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers.
- Active participation in employee‑owned culture.
