We are seeking motivated university students to join our team as One-on-One Biology and Chemistry Tutors. This paid, part-time internship focuses on supporting students enrolled in university-level biology, chemistry and related life-science courses.

Applicants may specialize in one subject or course area and are not expected to tutor every topic listed. For example, a candidate may tutor only organic chemistry, genetics, anatomy and physiology, or another area that matches their academic expertise.

- Other related biological sciences

- Physical chemistry
- Biochemistry
- Chemical laboratory concepts
- Other related chemistry courses

In this role, you will provide personalized, one-on-one online tutoring within your area or areas of expertise. You will help students understand challenging concepts, develop effective study and problem-solving strategies, and prepare for assignments, laboratory work, quizzes and examinations. This internship is ideal for students studying biology, chemistry, biochemistry, health sciences, biomedical sciences or a related field who enjoy explaining scientific concepts and helping others learn.

Responsibilities

- Provide personalized, one-on-one online tutoring for university-level biology and chemistry courses
- Tutor students specifically within your subject or course area of expertise
- Adapt tutoring sessions to each student’s course requirements, academic level and learning goals
- Explain scientific concepts clearly using diagrams, examples, visual aids and step-by-step methods
- Help students understand biological processes, chemical principles and scientific terminology
- Support students with calculations, chemical equations and quantitative chemistry problems when relevant




- Assist students with practice problems, laboratory concepts, assignments, quizzes and exam preparation
- Help students identify mistakes and improve their work without completing graded assignments on their behalf
- Teach effective study strategies, problem-solving methods and approaches to organizing scientific information
- Prepare personalized practice questions or learning resources when needed
- Use screen sharing, digital whiteboards, molecular models and online teaching tools effectively
- Track individual student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Communicate professionally with students and the education team
- Collaborate with the education team to improve biology and chemistry learning resources

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution
- Studying biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, health sciences or a related field
- Must meet the eligibility requirements of the VFC internship program
- Strong academic knowledge in at least one university-level biology or chemistry subject
- Applicants are not required to tutor every subject listed
- Strong scientific, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to explain scientific concepts clearly, patiently and step by step
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable providing one-on-one tutoring in an online environment
- Reliable internet connection and access to a suitable computer
- Organized, dependable and committed to helping students succeed

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring or teaching-assistant experience
- Strong grades in relevant university biology or chemistry courses
- Experience helping students prepare for university examinations
- Experience supporting students with laboratory concepts or scientific calculations
- Experience creating practice questions, diagrams, study guides or educational materials
- Familiarity with digital whiteboards, molecular visualization tools or other relevant educational technology

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
