Virtual Assets Compliance Opportunity - Innovative Financial Services Firm

I’m working on a Compliance Officer search with a well-established Alberta financial institution.

This is a 12-month maternity leave contract based in Calgary, with possible longer-term potential.

This is not just a narrow AML alert-review role. It is a hands-on compliance opportunity for someone who wants broader exposure across AML / FINTRAC, high-risk member reviews, MSBs, payments, crypto / virtual assets, procedures, training and internal stakeholder guidance.

The role would suit someone who enjoys the practical side of compliance: reviewing higher-risk activity, documenting decisions clearly, supporting business teams, improving procedures, and helping an innovative and growing financial institution manage AML risk in a thoughtful and commercially aware way.

What you’ll be working on:

- AML / ATF and FINTRAC compliance
- High-risk member / customer reviews
- Transaction monitoring and unusual activity escalation
- CDD / EDD / KYC / KYB
- MSB, payments, crypto / virtual assets or digital wallet-related compliance
- Procedure, form and checklist updates
- Compliance training and internal guidance
- Audit-ready documentation and review support

What would make you a strong fit:

- 4+ years of AML, financial crime, compliance or regulatory risk experience
- Experience from a bank, credit union, fintech,



payments company, MSB, crypto business, consulting firm or broader regulated financial services environment
- Strong working knowledge of FINTRAC / PCMLTFA requirements
- Exposure to transaction monitoring, high-risk reviews, EDD, KYC / KYB or suspicious activity escalation
- experience with virtual assets/crypto compliance, and client interactions
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal stakeholders, branch teams, operations or business partners
- Practical, detail-oriented and comfortable working in a relationship-led environment

Role details:

Location: Calgary

Work model: 5 days in office

Compensation: CAD $75,000–$95,000 annualized base salary

Start: August

Term: 12-month maternity leave contract

Permanent potential: Possible, but not guaranteed
