Your Opportunity:

Intensive Outreach and Diversion Services in Medicine Hat is looking for a permanent full-time Registered Nurse (RN) to support the psychiatric care and behavior management of adults living in Riverview, a specialty mental health facility. Operating within a multi-disciplinary team, the RN will be responsible for providing a psychiatric lens to assist sites with monitoring the resident's psychiatric presentation, medications and will be responsible for continuous assessment and follow-up of the resident during their involvement. The RN directly supports the psychiatrist, providing clinical summaries around the resident's presentation. The RN will provide comprehensive mental health and behavioural consultation, assessment, intervention, behavioural strategy application, and staff capacity building through in office education and coaching. The RN's work will be accomplished through various approaches, including education, skill demonstration, direct client intervention, and evaluation of the effectiveness of strategies through observation and feedback from the resident and care staff. The RN will apply assessments, develop & implement concrete and practical mental health and behaviour strategies that can be utilized by all staff members interacting with the resident. Essential to this position's skill set will be understanding how behaviour is manifested due to mental illness, addiction, and other internal or external factors. The RN will work closely and collaboratively with a diverse range of frontline providers, allied health, & psychiatry to disseminate evidence-based knowledge in behavioural mental health. This position will also be used to support any of the programs/services offered within Intensive Outreach and Diversion as needed.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families,



communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).



If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of recent experience in Behavioral Mental Health working with complex clients. Robust experience in conducting relevant clinical assessments, including but not limited to suicide risk assessments and mental health status exams, and demonstrated intervention skills in mental health, developmental disability with experience in inpatient, community, and supportive living environments. We require at least two years of full-time nursing experience directly supporting individuals with mental health disorders required with advanced knowledge of psychotropic medications. Knowledge and experience in the planning, evaluating, and delivering of education can apply various instructional techniques such as role-playing, simulations, team exercises, and group discussions. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent critical thinking skills. Must possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), listening actively and responding appropriately to all participant questions and providing feedback. Have the ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information promptly.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the addiction and mental health system and resources in the Medicine Hat and understanding the clinical aspects of addictions and mental illness across all populations in the continuum of care, including the mental health act. Knowledge of and experience with case managing individuals on Community Treatment Orders. Strong computer and technical skills.
