Mining Construction Supervisor

Position Overview

A leading heavy civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent/Supervisor to oversee large-scale earthworks projects within active mining environments. This leadership role is responsible for managing high-volume material movement, tailings storage facility construction, dam building, borrow development, and aggregate production while maintaining exceptional standards for safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

The successful candidate is a hands-on, field-focused leader who thrives in remote project environments and has extensive experience managing crews, equipment fleets, and complex earthworks operations. This individual will play a critical role in driving production targets, optimizing equipment utilization, and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and regulatory requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a seasoned Superintendent or Supervisor with extensive experience in mining and heavy civil earthworks. They possess a strong understanding of large-scale earthmoving operations, haul cycle optimization, and engineered earthworks construction.

This individual leads from the field, demonstrates strong decision-making abilities, and is comfortable collaborating with engineering, survey, quality control, and project management teams to successfully deliver complex projects.

Required Qualifications

- 2-5+ years of heavy civil construction or mining earthworks experience.
- Significant experience in a Superintendent, General Foreman, or senior supervisory leadership role.
- Mine Supervisor or Shiftboss certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Proven experience managing large-scale earthmoving operations involving materials such as gravel, till, aggregates, rock, and rip-rap.
- Direct experience working on active mine sites and understanding mine-site safety regulations and operational requirements.
- Experience constructing tailings storage facilities, earthfill dams, containment structures,



or similar large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Solid knowledge of haul cycle management, equipment productivity, and fleet coordination.
- Experience working with GPS machine control systems, field survey processes, compaction testing, and quality control requirements for engineered earthworks.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

- Lead and manage multiple active work fronts on large-scale earthworks projects.
- Direct field crews, subcontractors, and equipment resources to achieve production targets.
- Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to maximize operational efficiency.
- Maintain a strong field presence and actively monitor project progress.
- Identify and resolve operational challenges in real time.
- Balance production goals with safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Safety & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, industry standards, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct safety meetings and enforce hazard assessment procedures.
- Monitor equipment inspections, maintenance practices, and operational readiness.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure accountability across all project personnel.
- Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns as required.

Project Execution

- Interpret construction drawings, engineering plans, and technical specifications.
- Oversee activities including site preparation, stripping, borrow development, aggregate production, rip-rap placement, and containment structure construction.
- Coordinate surveying, grade control,



and quality assurance activities.
- Monitor production metrics, haul cycle performance, and compaction testing results.
- Ensure all work meets project specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.

Field Support

- Maintain a practical understanding of heavy equipment operations.
- Support crews with field activities when required to maintain productivity and project schedules.
- Assist with troubleshooting operational and equipment-related challenges.

Administration & Communication

- Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and project records.
- Communicate effectively with project management, engineering teams, clients, and field personnel.
- Utilize project management and reporting software, including Microsoft Office and digital field documentation systems.
- Provide regular updates on production, safety, quality, and schedule performance.

Work Environment

- Remote, mine-site based projects.
- Rotational schedules with day and night shift requirements.
- Extended workdays and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Fast-paced, production-focused environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.

Projects

The organization is currently delivering and pursuing multiple large-scale mining infrastructure projects involving:

- Tailings storage facility construction
- Earthfill dam construction
- Storage pond and spillway development
- Borrow source development
- Aggregate and rip-rap production
- High-volume earthmoving operations

Projects are located at major mining operations throughout British Columbia and involve long-term opportunities within active mining environments.

Compensation & Opportunity

- Hourly rate - $45 - $55/hour.
