We are at the forefront of PV innovation, leading the industry in cutting-edge design with a focus on continuous innovation, with a vision to deliver the highest value to our clients at the lowest cost per kWh. Our diversified portfolio of ground mount products for the commercial and utility scale markets, coupled with our unique suite of engineering collaboration tools, technical services, and installation support, allows us to deliver turnkey solutions that are modular, lighter, and quicker to install. We support our North American clients from multiple locations in North America.
Polar Racking is hiring a Project Lead, Engineering to take ownership of our solar racking systems from structural design through manufacturing release and field support. This is a hands-on technical leadership position: you will hold engineering authority on structural decisions, coordinate directly with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Project Management, and represent engineering in customer and EPC-facing conversations. The role sits within a quick-moving environment full of opportunity, plenty of room for creative problem-solving, current ideas, and growth for someone who wants to make a real impact.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical sign-off on structural packages, drawings, and Bills of Materials prior to manufacturing release
- Serve as the engineering decision-maker on cross-functional issues involving Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Project Management
- Lead change control on active projects, tracing design changes through drawings, BOM, and manufacturing to prevent repeated rework
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T; principles to ensure manufacturable, accurate designs
- Perform and review engineering calculations, 3D models, and parametric designs,
leading design reviews to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and consistency across projects
- Run FMEA studies to proactively identify design and process risks before they become field issues
- Build and maintain strong technical relationships with customers and EPC partners, communicating clearly and confidently on design and engineering matters throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support new product development initiatives, contributing engineering input from concept through prototype and launch
- Maintain and improve engineering standards, templates, and best practices to support consistency across projects
- Identify and drive cost reduction opportunities across existing and recent designs, balancing performance, manufacturability, and cost
- Develop and maintain project plans and schedules, keeping engineering deliverables on track across multiple concurrent projects
- Mentor junior and offshore engineers and review their calculations and drawings
- Identify practical opportunities to use AI tools in day-to-day engineering work to save time and reduce errors
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed, in line with the evolving needs of the team and business
Requirements
- 7+ years of structural or mechanical engineering experience; racking, structural steel, or civil design experience strongly preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Civil, or Structural Engineering; P.Eng. (or eligibility) is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to track and manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks with strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (including FEA) and AutoCAD
- Hands-on experience with tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T;
- Experience running or contributing to FMEA studies
- Experience managing engineering change control (BOM revisions, drawing control, ECNs) in a production environment
- Direct experience collaborating with supply chain and manufacturing teams on material or tooling constraints
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including direct customer or EPC-facing experience
- A strong sense of ownership, taking initiative and following problems through to resolution
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment in prioritizing daily responsibilities
- Team-oriented and detail-oriented, with strong planning and time management skills
- Hands-on mindset, comfortable getting into the details of a design or a build issue, not just reviewing on paper
- Genuine interest in using AI tools to work smarter, not just faster
