Nakoda Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate teacher to lead a high-needs classroom supporting students with exceptionalities. This role focuses on creating an inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes independence, confidence, and meaningful student integration.
What You’ll Do
- Plan and deliver individualized and small-group instruction
- Develop and implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and monitor progress
- Build foundational literacy, numeracy, and life skills
- Support social development and student independence
- Create opportunities for student integration within the school
- Advocate for student needs and promote inclusive practices
- Incorporate outdoor and land-based learning
- Integrate and support Îyethka culture, identity, and community values
- Collaborate with Education Assistants, specialists, staff, and families
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment
- Use assessment and data to guide instruction
What You Bring
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or eligibility)
- Experience working with students with exceptionalities or high support needs (strongly preferred)
- Knowledge of inclusive education and differentiated instruction
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to student advocacy and inclusive education
- Respect for and commitment to Îyethka culture and community
