The Faculty of Education at the University of Regina invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Language and Literacy/Early Childhood Education, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027, or as negotiated with the successful candidate. This hybrid position has a primary focus on early and emergent literacy with a connection to early childhood education.

The University of Regina is located on Treaty 4 territory, with a presence in Treaty 6. These lands are home to the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation. Duties: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Language and Literacy, as well as selected Early Childhood Education courses. Expertise in reading pedagogies for young readers and emergent literacy development is required.



The candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research, independently and/or collaboratively, and to supervise and mentor graduate students. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to collegial governance through service on faculty and university committees, as well as engagement with professional and broader communities.

Position Requirements

The required qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. degree or the near completion of a Ph.D. (ABD) in a relevant area, as well as teaching and research experience related to: reading acquisition, reading assessment, writing and multimodal pedagogies, multilingual learners or contexts, early and elementary-level literacies, and/or emergent literacies. The successful candidate will have a clearly articulated and active program of research or scholarship related to early literacy and reading pedagogies in the early elementary years.

Experience teaching reading and literacy in K-3 contexts is preferred. Teaching experience in university settings is considered an asset. Expertise in one or more areas of early childhood education is also considered an asset, including early years curriculum and assessment, play-based pedagogy, child development, and anti-oppressive education in early learning settings.
