Applications are now being accepted for Temporary Part Time RT Externs to work in the Respiratory Department. The successful applicant will have a commitment of 37.5 hours per pay period to this position and will be required to work Monday-Sunday 0800-2000 & 2000-0800, including holidays. Please note, this is a temporary position scheduled to end upon graduation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Patient Care Activities – Indirect Supervision
- Implementing existing care plan interventions under direction of a respiratory therapist
- Patient assessment
- Reporting changes in client status or safety concerns to a supervising respiratory therapist
- Documenting care provided
- Oxygen therapy
- Humidity therapy
- Teach incentive spirometry
- Teach MDI administration
- Basic non-invasive airway management
- Manual ventilation
- Application or respiratory monitoring equipment
- Patient Care Activities – Direct Supervision
- Medication delivery
- Assisted cough, secretion clearance & breathing techniques




- Only perform a controlled act that is authorized to the profession if it is performed under the direct supervision of a member of a College within the meaning of the Regulated Health Professions Act

QUALIFICATIONS

- Must have the ability to communicate in a confidential, professional, diplomatic and friendly manner when interacting with patients, and staff
- Demonstrate emotional maturity
- Ability to maintain poise and discretion in emergency and stressful situations
- Currently enrolled as a 3rd year respiratory therapy student from an accredited institution – required
