- Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, the Lead Hand is accountable for the safe and efficient use of available labour, machines, loading and storage capacity, supplies and other resources in order to maintain a cost-effective operation that meets a comprehensive service mandate.

Job Responsibilities

- Assisting in the selection, orientation, training, and warehouse assignments of employees.
- Assisting with supervising and delegating tasks to workers as well as hands-on participation in the day-to-day operations of the business.
- Developing and conveying standard job expectations to employees; monitoring, coaching, documenting conversations and disciplining employees as needed to improve performance.
- Maximizing warehouse productivity by efficiently utilizing available staff and agency as well as suggesting new and innovative ways to improve warehouse systems, controls, and design.
- Meeting operational and financial standards by controlling costs, evaluating supply use, ensuring basic maintenance standards, and checking accuracy of inbound and outbound shipments.
- Maneuvering forklifts and other industrial trucks (carton clamps [sit-down counterbalances], low reach stackers, powered pallet jacks) in a warehouse setting to load and unload trucks as well as retrieve or store palletized merchandise.




- Inspecting incoming and outgoing loads for damages and to ensure the safety of materials before using forklifts to move and ship pallets and floor-loaded merchandise.
- Manually handling merchandise from pallets, trailers or containers to create smaller loads or breaking down palletized materials to check quality, condition, and that shipments match delivery paperwork and piece counts.
- Maintaining storage areas, warehouse floor and yard space by tracking and co-ordinating the flow of shipments based on reports and available planning forecasts.
- Performing daily and routine workplace inspections of the warehouse and site.
- Understanding, adhering to, and enforcing all warehouse safety rules, PPE requirements (hard hat, hi-vis vest, steel toes and gloves when necessary), guidelines and relevant legislation.
- Working on a rotating schedule to assist with a variety of job functions and supporting various supervisors, projects, and clients.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience:

- warehouse: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

- Forklift License (preferred)
