Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, Nurse Practitioners, Strategy and Practice with accountabilities to the Vice President, Knowledge, Practice and Chief Nurse Executive, the Clinical Lead provides leadership and mentorship to Nurse Practitioners and integrates both practice and operational responsibilities including practice standards and accountabilities, evolving models of care, clinical practice and education models, and quality care. The Clinical Lead operationalizes the Nurse Practitioner (NP) strategic plan, including ongoing role and practice development and operationalizes the integration of clinical information with care environment requirements for practice by working toward collaborative solutions in a complex inter-professional environment. The Clinical Lead provides leadership in operationalizing NP practice standards of care consistent with the values of the organization, clinical professional development standards, and representative of patient and family-centered care.
This leadership role collaborates with operational leaders within programs with NPs to move initiatives forward, ensuring a commitment to best practice in all aspects of patient care across the care continuum. The Clinical Lead liaises, consults, and collaborates with various internal healthcare professionals to support clinical practice optimization and sustainability of NP roles.
The Clinical Lead works together in a team-oriented leadership model promoting interprofessional practice and a culture of continuous quality improvement.
Travel may be a requirement of this position.
Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Master's degree in nursing as a Nurse Practitioner, plus 5 years' recent, related clinical leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid BC Driver's License.
Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Nurse Practitioner.
Maintains their clinical Nurse Practitioner practice in their area of expertise/interest and must maintain membership as Island Health medical staff.

- Demonstrated understanding of regulatory standards, appropriate guidelines and evidence related to NP practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of structures and leadership roles to support patient-centered frameworks.
- Demonstrated leadership skills that promote a respectful, motivating and empowering work environment, where individual competencies can thrive.
- Demonstrates leadership competencies aligned with the LEADS Framework, including self-awareness, collaboration, achieving results, and system transformation.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and time constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to identify variances and implement strategies that lead to desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and manage projects.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
