Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Safety & Compliance Coordinator to support our trucking operations. The successful candidate will help ensure compliance with applicable transportation regulations, promote a solid safety culture, and support drivers and management with safety programs, documentation, training, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain compliance with applicable FMCSA, DOT, NSC, provincial, state, and company safety requirements.
- Conduct driver onboarding, orientation, and ongoing safety training.
- Review and maintain driver qualification files and ensure required documents remain current.
- Monitor Hours of Service compliance and review ELD reports for violations or trends.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and safety violations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accident registers, incident files, and related safety documentation.
- Track driver performance, violations, inspections, and safety trends.
- Coordinate drug and alcohol testing programs where required by law or company policy.
- Confirm that vehicle inspection, maintenance, and regulatory records are complete and up to date.
- Assist with transportation audits, safety audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory inspections.
- Develop, update, and communicate company safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and driver coaching sessions.
- Work closely with dispatch, maintenance, operations, and management to improve fleet safety.
- Monitor safety performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare accurate safety reports and provide updates to management.
Qualifications
- Experience in trucking safety, transportation compliance, fleet operations, or a related role is preferred.
- Knowledge of transportation safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with ELD systems and Hours of Service rules.
- Strong organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic document systems.
- Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with safety management or fleet management software is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of transportation safety or compliance experience.
- Experience managing driver qualification files and preparing for transportation audits.
- A recognized transportation safety certification, such as Certified Director of Safety, is an asset
