Position Summary

The Senior ASME Pressure Vessel Fitter is responsible for fitting, layout, and assembly of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pipe spools, and custom welded fabrications in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 requirements. This role requires a high level of technical skill, blueprint reading, problem solving, and the ability to work independently on complex assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

Fabrication & Fitting

- Perform complete layout and fitting of ASME pressure vessels, tanks, nozzles, supports, and internals.
- Fit to tight tolerances, maintaining dimensional accuracy within shop and customer specifications.
- Interpret drawings, BOMs, weld maps, and fabrication packages with minimal supervision.
- Prep, square, align, and tack components using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Fit nozzles (threaded, SW, BW, flanged) with proper orientation, projection, and weld prep.
- Perform advanced layout including heads, shells, saddles, stiffeners, and internal structures.

Tools & Equipment

- Operate cutting torches, plasma, grinders, drills, overhead cranes, jacks, and alignment tools.
- Use precision measuring tools (levels, squares, micrometers, calipers, pi tapes).
- Safely rig and move heavy components.

Workmanship & Quality

- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, 5S, and organization.
- Check work for squareness, alignment, bevel correctness, and dimensional accuracy.
- Verify fit-ups prior to welding, ensuring proper gaps, land, and root alignment.

Collaboration & Leadership

- Work closely with welders, supervisors, engineering, and QC.




- Mentor junior fitters and apprentices.
- Provide feedback on drawings, BOM discrepancies, and manufacturability issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, etc.).

Required Experience & Qualifications

- 7+ years of fitting experience in an ASME Section VIII pressure-vessel fabrication environment.
- Proven ability to fit complete vessels and assemblies independently.
- Robust understanding of fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and tolerances.
- Solid knowledge of:
- ASME Section VIII Div 1
- Common WPS/Weld Joint requirements
- Pipe fitting (ASME B31.1/B31.3 is an asset)
- Ability to use precision measurement tools accurately.
- Experience with stainless steel and carbon steel; experience with exotic alloys is an asset.
- Strong rigging and overhead crane experience.

Physical Requirements

- Able to lift up to 50 lbs as required.
- Able to stand for long periods and work in confined spaces when needed.
- Comfortable working with heavy industrial equipment and in a welding/fabrication environment.
