Quality Assurance & POS Support Specialist
Location: Remote - Greater Toronto Area
Occasional Onsite Requirement: Thornhill, Ontario
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $65,000-$85,000 CAD
Experience Level: Intermediate to Senior
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance and Point-of-Sale Support Specialist with a strong background in retail POS systems, software and hardware testing, client implementation, and technical support.
This is a remote-first position for someone located in the Greater Toronto Area. The successful candidate must be available to travel to a lab in Thornhill on an occasional, as-needed basis to configure, test, troubleshoot, and validate physical point-of-sale hardware.
This is not a traditional software QA role focused primarily on APIs or complex backend automation. The position requires someone who understands how point-of-sale technology operates in real retail environments and can test complete workflows across software, payment devices, peripherals, and store hardware.
The ideal candidate combines strong QA fundamentals with practical POS experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to support customers throughout implementation, testing, and issue resolution.
About the Role
The Quality Assurance and POS Support Specialist will work across quality assurance, functional consulting, implementation, and customer support.
You will validate POS software and hardware, reproduce and document issues, support client deployments, and help customers successfully use the platform. You will collaborate with internal development, product, support, and implementation teams to identify problems and ensure that solutions perform reliably in real-world retail environments.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys solving practical problems, working directly with customers, and taking ownership of issues from initial discovery through resolution.
Responsibilities
- Test point-of-sale applications, devices, peripherals, and complete retail transaction workflows.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, usability, and end-to-end testing of POS solutions.
- Validate software across different POS hardware configurations and retail environments.
- Test payment terminals, receipt printers, barcode scanners, cash drawers, customer displays, and related devices.
- Travel to the Thornhill lab when required to configure, connect, test, and troubleshoot physical hardware.
- Develop and execute detailed test cases, test scenarios, and validation procedures.
- Identify,
reproduce, document, prioritize, and track software and hardware defects.
- Clearly communicate defects and expected outcomes to developers, product teams, and other stakeholders.
- Verify fixes and conduct regression testing before software releases or client deployments.
- Support clients during POS implementation, configuration, testing, rollout, and post-launch stabilization.
- Provide responsive technical and functional support to retail customers.
- Troubleshoot issues involving POS software, devices, connectivity, peripherals, configuration, and user workflows.
- Gather information from customers and translate business or operational problems into clear technical requirements.
- Assist customers with system functionality, recommended processes, and issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate testing, implementation, support, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve product quality, customer experience, and support processes.
- Participate in release readiness activities and provide feedback on product usability and reliability.
- Take ownership of assigned issues and follow them through to resolution.
Required Qualifications
- 2-5+ years of experience in quality assurance, software testing, POS support, retail technology, implementation, or a closely related role.
- Strong hands-on experience testing point-of-sale software and physical POS hardware.
- Practical understanding of retail transaction workflows and store-level operations.
- Experience testing or supporting devices such as payment terminals, scanners, printers, cash drawers, and customer-facing displays.
- Experience performing functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Ability to create clear test cases, document defects, reproduce issues, and communicate results.
- Experience troubleshooting a combination of software, hardware, configuration, and connectivity issues.
- Previous client-facing experience in technical support, implementation, functional consulting, or customer success.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong problem-solving,
organizational, and follow-through skills.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment while collaborating closely with a distributed team.
- Team-first attitude with humility, empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to accept feedback and work without ego in a collaborative environment.
- Must be located within reasonable travelling distance of Thornhill, Ontario.
- Must be available to attend the Thornhill lab on an occasional, as-needed basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting POS solutions within hardlines, grocery, home improvement, specialty retail, or other multi-location retail environments.
- Experience working with organizations such as Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Loblaw, or comparable retail businesses.
- Experience supporting POS implementations, upgrades, store openings, pilots, or production rollouts.
- Familiarity with payment processing, tender types, refunds, returns, discounts, promotions, taxes, inventory, and receipt workflows.
- Experience working with defect-tracking or test-management platforms such as Jira, Azure DevOps, TestRail, or similar tools.
- Experience working directly with software development and product teams.
- Knowledge of Windows-based POS environments, device drivers, local networks, and peripheral configuration.
- Experience with test automation or automated regression testing.
- Familiarity with SQL, log analysis, APIs, or technical diagnostic tools is considered an asset but is not the primary focus of the role.
- Experience developing customer-facing documentation, training materials, or knowledge-base content.
