Brooker Ridge Animal Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario is hiring a Veterinary Assistant / Client Care Assistant for a permanent, year-round paid role in our friendly, professional, client-facing veterinary clinic.

This is a hands-on clinic support position. The right applicant will be reliable, practical, comfortable with animals and people, and ready to help wherever the clinic needs support: patient handling, cleaning, appointment flow, reception help, client communication, and daily clinic tasks.

This role is best suited to someone with real paid or ongoing veterinary clinic or animal-care workplace experience. Strong applicants should be able to clearly list the clinic, hospital, kennel, grooming facility, shelter, rescue, daycare, or animal-care workplace where they worked, the dates, approximate hours, and the duties they performed.

Schedule and availability:

- This is a permanent, year-round role, not a summer-only or school-term placement.

- Applicants must be available for ongoing work beyond summer and school placement periods.

- Our clinic needs reliable coverage for scheduled shifts, including closing shifts until at least 7:30pm when required.

- Please apply only if your regular availability can support the clinic schedule year-round, including after September 2026.

- Applicants who are only available during the day, only until 5:00pm, or only for short-term/summer hours are unlikely to be a fit for this role.

Responsibilities:

- Assist veterinarians and clinic staff with safe, compassionate patient handling and restraint.

- Clean and disinfect exam rooms, treatment areas, cages, equipment, floors, and common areas.

- Help prepare rooms, support appointment flow, and keep the clinic organized.

- Assist with laundry, dishes, stocking supplies, waste disposal, and general clinic maintenance.

- Communicate professionally with clients in person and by phone.

- Support reception when needed,



including checking clients in/out, taking messages, booking appointments, and gathering patient information.

- Assist before, during, and after appointments and procedures as directed by clinic staff.

- Work calmly and dependably during busy, messy, emotional, and fast-moving clinic situations.

Requirements:

- Available for a permanent, year-round role.

- Not seeking summer-only, seasonal, temporary, co-op, school-placement-only, or volunteer-placement work.

- Able to commute reliably to Brooker Ridge Animal Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario in all seasons.

- Comfortable with cleaning, animal restraint, client communication, reception support, and hands-on clinic duties.

- Comfortable working around dogs, cats, urine, feces, blood, odours, noise, and routine clinic cleaning products.

- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and professional communication.

- Able to follow instructions, ask questions when needed, and work as part of a clinic team.

Preferred experience:

- Paid or ongoing veterinary clinic, animal hospital, kennel, boarding, daycare, grooming, shelter, rescue, or similar animal-care experience.

- Animal restraint or handling experience.

- Client-facing customer service or reception/front desk experience.

- Cleaning and facility care experience in a medical, animal-care, or service environment.
