Vocal Teachers

A singing teacher job at Merriam is a long-term journey of professional growth, musical exploration, and bringing joy and satisfaction to others musical journeys. You’ll be encouraged to continue with your personal writing or performing, with opportunities to record in our studio, perform in our hall, and showcase yourself as an individual artist.

You’ll have the option of part-time or (where available) full-time work, as well as the option of working inside the music studio or teaching remotely.

As a vocal music teacher with us, you’ll work with our department head and other administration staff to ensure that schedules are well planned, students are well matched, tools and training are there when you need them, and that above all, your work as an educator is recognized by all stakeholders.

As you gain experience, training, and skills, you’ll have the opportunity to advance within the school and play increasingly important roles in helping to shape students’ lives and the future of the school.

Job Responsibilities

Vocal Teachers

The human voice is a musical instrument unlike any other. And we’re looking for voice instructors as diverse as the voice. We welcome applications from vocalists with a classical or operatic background, musical theatre and pop, jazz and R&B;, and everything in between.

We’re seeking out two very unique and valuable types of vocal instructors for our school. Firstly, our school is built upon the long-term commitment of our teaching staff. Many of our leading voice teachers have been partners with us here at the school for years, and have made the fulfilling choice to build a professional life here with us.

But we’re also looking for active performers and recording artists who find satisfaction in sharing their knowledge with others in a way that enhances both their reputations and their income. These artists may act as adjudicators,



guest lecturers, course contributors, remote coaches for elite students, and content contributors.

Our teachers typically reside here in the Toronto area, including Etobicoke, Markham, Richmond Hill, North York, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Vaughan, Brampton, Scarborough, and more. As we expand online however, we’d love to hear from you regardless of where you are, from Dartmouth to Windsor, Alberta to Aurora, Stouffville to Saskatoon, Port Coquitlam to Port Dover.

Regardless of what job type you apply for, the age group of the students, your past job titles, or whether you have a bachelor’s degree or doctorate, we value musicianship (not necessarily virtuosity) and a genuine connection with educating above all else. Successful candidates will have post-secondary education, except where recognized success in the music industry or exceptional prior teaching experience provides a similar depth of knowledge.
