ROLE OVERVIEW

Streamline Control is seeking a Senior Historian and Business Intelligence Specialist to take a leading role in the design, delivery, and ongoing support of AVEVA PI System environments across our industrial client base. This is a senior-level position suited to an experienced AVEVA PI professional with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on PI System experience across administration, integration, analytics, and visualization.

Working across sectors including Oil & Gas, Utilities, Mining, Life Sciences, and Manufacturing, you will serve as a subject matter expert for clients who depend on operational data to run their facilities, make decisions, and drive efficiency. You will own complex PI engagements end-to-end — from architecture and implementation through to support, optimization, and business intelligence delivery — while mentoring junior team members and contributing to pre-sales and solution design activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PI System Administration and Infrastructure

- Administer and manage AVEVA PI Server environments including PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework, PI Analysis, PI Notifications, and PI Web API across production, QA, and development systems.
- Monitor and optimize PI System health, performance, and availability, including collective management, SDK log reviews, interface reliability, and archive administration.
- Manage PI Server patching, upgrades, and version migrations, coordinating with client IT teams and following AVEVA best practices for system continuity and rollback procedures.
- Oversee PI Server backup and disaster recovery planning, including recovery testing and documentation aligned with client business continuity requirements.
- Administer PI security including identities, users, groups, and trusts; conduct periodic access management reviews in alignment with client cybersecurity policies.

Data Acquisition and Integration

- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot PI Interfaces, PI Adapters, and PI Connectors for a wide range of industrial protocols including OPC-DA, OPC-UA, OPC-HDA, Modbus, RDBMS, and MQTT / Sparkplug B.
- Lead PI tag creation, validation, metadata configuration, and archive optimization using PI Builder, PI SMT, and PI System Explorer.
- Integrate PI Systems with enterprise platforms including ERP, MES, CMMS, and cloud data environments; develop and maintain PI Web API and PI AF SDK-based integrations for downstream applications.
- Support AVEVA Connect configuration, data services, and cloud connectivity including edge data store deployments and OMF-based data transmission.

PI Asset Framework and Analytics

- Design and develop PI Asset Framework hierarchies, templates, element structures, and attribute configurations aligned with client asset models and naming conventions.
- Develop advanced PI Analysis calculations, PI AF expressions, and PI Notifications to deliver real-time analytics, KPI monitoring, and automated alerting for client operations teams.
- Configure and manage PI Event Frames to capture process events, alarms, and operational contexts; develop event-driven workflows and reporting solutions built on AF event data.
- Lead PI Data Archive management including reprocessing, backfilling, archive rebuilds,

and optimization of compression and exception settings for data quality and storage efficiency.

Visualization and Business Intelligence

- Design and build PI Vision displays, PI ProcessBook graphics, and PI DataLink reports that deliver intuitive, actionable operational data to client stakeholders at the site, department, and management levels.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and SSRS reports that integrate PI System data with broader enterprise data sources for operational and management-level business intelligence.
- Support clients in adopting analytics platforms such as SEEQ, Databricks, or Power BI for historian-driven advanced analytics and process intelligence initiatives where applicable.

Client Engagement and Technical Advisory

- Engage directly with client stakeholders in technical and strategic discussions, acting as a trusted advisor on PI System architecture, optimization, and roadmap planning.
- Contribute to pre-sales activities including scoping, solution design, effort estimation, and proposal preparation; translate client requirements into technically sound and commercially viable deliverables.
- Provide Tier 2 operational support for PI infrastructure under managed service agreements, including incident response, root cause investigations, and escalation management.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, knowledge bases, system diagrams, and end-user guides; deliver training to client personnel on PI System tools and best practices.
- Mentor and support junior Historian and BI Specialists within the Streamline team, contributing to internal knowledge sharing, quality standards, and technical capability development.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum 5 years of hands-on AVEVA PI System experience across administration, configuration, integration, and analytics in an industrial environment.
- Deep proficiency with PI Server architecture including PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework, PI Analysis, PI Interfaces, and PI Web API.
- Strong understanding of industrial data collection, OT environments, and field instrument data flows from DCS, SCADA, and PLC systems into the PI historian.
- Experience configuring PI Interfaces or PI Adapters for at least two industrial communication protocols (examples: OPC-DA, OPC-UA, Modbus, RDBMS, MQTT).
- Demonstrated experience building PI Vision displays, PI DataLink reports, and PI AF-based analytics solutions for operational stakeholders.
- Background in Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical findings and solutions clearly to both technical teams and non-technical client stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
