Position Summary
This posting is being issued in anticipation of both current and upcoming part-time teaching opportunities for the academic year. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Applied Science, Skills and Technology, the successful candidate will support the delivery of the Electrical Apprenticeship program. They will apply a range of teaching, learning, and assessment approaches designed to address the diverse needs of learners.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers courses using recognized best practices and principles of adult education.
- Enhances and updates the syllabus and course materials—guided by the course outline and existing resources—contributing to the ongoing materials available for future faculty.
- Ensures course content remains current, relevant, and aligned with best practices in the associated professional and program areas.
- Creates an inclusive and supportive learning environment that recognizes and respects students’ diverse cultural backgrounds, educational experiences, and individual learning styles.
- Develops and applies course learning outcomes and alternative delivery methods that align with and support overall program objectives.
- Communicates all learning outcomes, instructional approaches, and assessment methods clearly to students.
- Evaluates student progress toward learning outcomes and fosters success through individualized support, academic guidance, and timely, constructive feedback.
- Designs multimedia resources and alternative instructional strategies, integrating appropriate educational technologies to enhance the learning experience.
- Collaborates effectively with internal and external partners to support a relevant, engaging, and well-connected learning environment.
- Utilizes the learning management system to reinforce and support student achievement of learning outcomes.
Qualifications
- EDUCATION Requirement: Must be a Licensed Journey person an Electrician Construction and Maintenance (309A) or Electrician Industrial (442a)
- RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
Experience mentoring apprentices in diverse industrial settings.
- Post-secondary teaching experience an asset.
- A proven commitment to achieving and developing excellence in others
- A commitment to lifelong learning in the field
- A proven ability to work within a collaborative workplace, demonstrating flexibility
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills
- Advanced computer literacy and a demonstrated willingness to acquire and use learning tools (such as Loyalist’s “Canvas” System) commensurate with departmental requirements
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and problem-solving, conflict and stress management skills
- Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating curriculum is an asset
- Experience facilitating learning at the post-secondary/adult level demonstrating a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning is a strong asset
- Ability to teach in-person, remotely or hybrid delivery
