Job Summary
The Controller is responsible for the overall financial management of the organization, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations, and the effective administration of accounting operations. In a lean organization, this role is a blend of strategic leadership and hands on execution, requiring the Controller to both perform key accounting functions and provide oversight, guidance, and financial insight. Working closely with shareholders and cross functional teams, the Controller supports sound financial decision making, operational efficiency, and the organization's long term growth and success.
Duties
- Maintains the general ledger and financial reporting systems for all operating and holding companies.
- Ensures the accuracy and integrity of intercompany accounts, balances, and reconciliations.
- Manages the accounting function, including participating in the hiring, supervision, development, and performance management of accounting staff.
- Collaborates with internal teams to improve, automate, and standardize accounting processes, supporting efficiency and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Prepares and coordinates monthly bank reconciliations, accounts payable reconciliations, and accounts receivable collection activities.
- Administers payroll and prepares or coordinates the timely remittance of payroll deductions, HST, WSIB, income tax installments, and other statutory filings and payments.
- Prepares monthly financial statements and supporting analyses for shareholder review within established reporting timelines.
- Provides financial insight, analysis, and recommendations to support shareholder decision making, strategic initiatives, and contractual opportunities.
- Prepares year end working papers and coordinates with external accountants to support annual financial reporting and tax compliance.
- Ensures financial compliance with agreements involving Brand Partners, Dealers, vendors, and other contractual relationships.
- Develops and maintains centralized financial and contractual records, including Dealer and Brand Partner agreements and obligations.
- Maintains collaborative relationships with Brand Partners, Dealers, external advisors, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
- Participates in shareholder and leadership meetings as requested.
- Collaborates with cross functional teams to support strategic initiatives and broader organizational objectives.
Requirements
- Proven experience in accounting or finance roles with a strong background in managing financial operations as a Controller or similar position.
- Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Business Central, and other relevant tools.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, account reconciliation, account analysis, and financial reporting standards.
- Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and budgeting activities.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Robust analytical skills to interpret financial data effectively.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
