Position Overview
We are seeking highly disciplined, experienced, and dependable Security Officers to oversee Wildfire Checkpoint Security Deployments throughout British Columbia.
In this role, you will be responsible for controlling access to restricted wildfire zones, managing access to the evacuation areas, liaising with local authorities and emergency personnel, and maintaining public safety in remote or high-pressure environments.
Mandatory Qualifications (Must meet at least ONE):
- Former Law Enforcement Experience: Prior experience in police service, sheriff departments, or specialized law enforcement agencies.
- Former Military Experience: Honorable service in the Canadian Armed Forces or allied military forces.
- Senior Security Experience: 10+ years of verified professional security experience, preferably in similar roles, mobile, or high-risk environments.
- Must have own vehicle and a valid drivers license and be prepared to travel to work locations
- Must be able to deploy for up to 7 days at a time (accommodation, per diem and mileage included)
Key Qualifications & Attributes:
- Proven Leadership & Independence: Exceptional ability to work autonomously in remote locations with minimal supervision.
- Conflict Management: Expert de-escalation skills with a calm, authoritative, and tactful demeanor when dealing with stressed or anxious members of the public.
- Decision-Making: Strong critical thinking and decisive judgment under energetic or high-pressure conditions.
- Communication: Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills (radio protocol experience is a strong asset).
- Licensing & Documentation: Valid British Columbia Security Worker License (or eligibility) and a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish, monitor, and secure designated wildfire checkpoint locations.
- Restrict entry to authorized personnel, residents, and emergency vehicles only.
- Diffuse tense situations with the public regarding evacuation orders and highway/road closures.
- Maintain accurate access logs and report directly to operations management and emergency liaison officers.
- Conduct operations safely while adapting to shifting weather, fire risks, and smoke conditions.
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
