About the Role

As an Engineering & Construction Underwriter based in Toronto, you will lead risk assessment and business development for construction projects across Canada, including power generation, manufacturing, infrastructure, building construction and heavy civil works.

Key Responsibilities

- Generate and underwrite new business in the engineering and construction sector with brokers and clients throughout Canada.
- Extend Swiss Re's market presence by assessing, proposing, and negotiating insurance conditions for large and mid‐sized construction projects.
- Collaborate closely with Canadian and global teams to ensure consistent client and broker relationships.
- Assess risks, coverage, terms and conditions while driving underwriting processes within appropriate risk management frameworks.
- Efficiently triage new submissions to maximize productivity and response times.
- Serve as a technical reference within the global Engineering & Construction community, tracking new technologies and market trends.
- Support cross‐selling opportunities and contribute to solution and marketing strategy development tailored to client needs.

About You

We are looking for a detail‐oriented, collaborative skilled with strong relationship‐building skills and a passion for the construction industry.

Qualifications

- In‐depth knowledge of insurance, engineering and construction underwriting,



and the Canadian insurance market.
- Minimum 2‐5 years of underwriting experience or equivalent.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and determine appropriate coverage solutions.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to Have

- Established broker and client network in the Canadian construction insurance market.
- French language proficiency.
- Experience with cross‐selling insurance products.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in construction.
- Experience working in global or matrix organizations.
- Professional designations in insurance or engineering fields.
- Client‐centric, forward‐thinking approach anticipating future customer needs.
- Ability to collaborate across teams and multiple offices.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage high workloads.

Salary

The base salary range for this Toronto position is CAD $95,000 to $124,000.
