As a Fitness Instructor - Older Adult Specialty, you will teach a variety of fitness programs. You will be responsible for planning and leading registered and/or drop-in fitness programs. Primary duties include:

- Teach specific skills to participants through progressive physical fitness development and sharing of knowledge.
- Participate in an online and in person Gentle Fitness Education Program and shadow and mentor with experienced Older adult Instructors.
- Plan and implement quality fitness programs.
- Assess participant needs and provide adaptations as necessary.
- Ensure safety of participants.
- Prepare and maintain equipment, supplies, and program space.
- Maintain program records and assist with program evaluation.
- Maintain a high degree of customer service.

Qualifications

- Minimum 18 years of age.




- Current Older Adult Fitness Instructor Certification from Fitness Alberta (or equivalent Older Adult exercise certification (e.g., YMCA, CanFitPro).
- Older Adult Certification must be through a Provincial or National organization.
- Level 2 Fitness Instructors must have at least 3 years of leadership and instructional experience.
- Previous experience with AHS Move 'n Mingle or other fall prevention programs is considered an asset.
- Previous experience with Older Adult fitness instruction is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability in assessing participant needs and determining adaptations as necessary.
- Strong communication skills along with demonstrated initiative, planning, and organizational skills.
- Sound judgment in safety standards and well-developed customer service skills.

Pre-employment Requirements

- Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) is required.
CPR must be renewed annually.
- A valid security clearance with a Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
- Applicants may be contacted, interviewed, and hired throughout the duration of this competition.

- Position Type: Up to 8 On-Call Positions
- Compensation:
- Instructor Level 1: $27.27 - $33.57
Instructor Level 2: $31.47 - $41.96

- Hours of work: This position works on-call hours based on operational requirements.
- Days of work: This position typically works various days including daytime, evenings, and weekends.
