Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker / Préposé aux bénéficiaires / Certified Nursing Assistant / Health Care Aide - Arch Hospice, Sault Ste. Marie - CAD$108.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 86-year-old woman currently residing in hospice care at Arch in Sault Ste. Marie. She was diagnosed with cancer in April and has shown remarkable resilience. While the hospice staff provides excellent medical care, she's experiencing loneliness and would greatly benefit from dedicated companionship and outdoor time. She's a smart, spirited German woman with a wonderful sense of humor, though she can be sassy and direct—especially on difficult days. She's very frail and spends most of her time in bed, but she's not attached to any medical equipment and is permitted to go outside with assistance.

Responsibilities:

Your primary role will be to provide companionship and help her get outside for fresh air. This involves assisting her with transfers from bed to wheelchair, taking her outdoors in her wheelchair, and spending quality time with her. Sessions may vary—sometimes she'll only have energy for 10-15 minutes outside, other days she'll feel well enough to chat for half an hour or more. You'll need to be attentive to her comfort level and adjust activities accordingly. The focus is on brightening her days and providing the social connection she's missing.

What We're Looking For:

We need someone with transfer and mobility support experience who can safely assist a frail client. Patience and compassion are essential—she can be a bit rude or abrupt when she's not feeling well, but it's not personal.

She's been waiting to pass for two months now, and everyone understands her frustration. We're looking for someone who can handle these moments with grace and understanding. Experience with hospice or end-of-life care is a solid asset. You should be comfortable working independently, as the family member coordinating care lives in London and won't be present. English-speaking required.

Schedule:

We're looking for two visits per week, with each visit lasting approximately 2 hours. The specific days and times are flexible and can be arranged to suit the caregiver's availability. We're hoping to start as soon as possible, ideally within the next week.
