Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides skilled nursing care to residents using the nursing process and evidence-based practice. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, the LPN assesses resident needs, develops and implements individualized care plans, administers medications and treatments, monitors changes in resident health, and promotes quality of life through compassionate, resident-centered care.

The LPN practices within the full scope of practice established by the College of Licensed Health and Care Professionals of Alberta (CLHA) and is accountable for maintaining professional standards, continuing competence, and safe clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide safe, compassionate, and resident-centered nursing care in accordance with individualized care plans.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and monitor residents for changes in health status.
- Administer medications, treatments, and nursing interventions safely and accurately.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and update resident care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, Registered Nurses, Health Care Aides, residents, families, and other members of the care team.




- Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to Health Care Aides and other care staff.
- Respond appropriately to changes in resident condition and emergency situations using sound clinical judgment.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with professional standards and organizational policies.
- Advocate for resident dignity, independence, privacy, safety, and quality of life.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, orientation, mandatory education, and ongoing professional development.
- Promote a safe work environment by following Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), Occupational Health and Safety legislation, WHMIS, and Salem Manor policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nurse program.
- Active registration and good standing with the College of Licensed Health and Care Professionals of Alberta (CLHA).
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in long-term care, continuing care, or geriatric nursing is considered an asset.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, reliability, and compassion.




- Commitment to continuous learning and evidence-based nursing practice.

Schedule

- Unionized position - AUPE.
- Must be available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, based on operational requirements.

Pay: $27.22-$36.43 per hour
