MAE Studio is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Sewing & Fashion Design Instructor to teach youth and adult sewing classes at community centres in Langley, Surrey (Clayton), and Coquitlam.
Schedule:
- Approximately 4 days per week
- Evening classes (typically 3:30 PM–7:00 PM or 6:00 PM–8:00 PM)
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel between teaching locations.
What you'll do:
- Plan and deliver engaging sewing classes for beginners and intermediate students.
- Teach garment construction, clothing alterations, and accessory making.
- Prepare class curriculum and organize projects.
- Transport and set up sewing equipment (approximately 6 sewing machines packed in two storage boxes).
- Create a welcoming, encouraging environment where students feel supported and confident as they develop their skills.
Requirements:
- Robust experience in garment sewing, alterations, and fashion construction.
- Knowledge of sewing techniques for both apparel and accessories.
- Excellent organization and lesson-planning skills.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently.
- Friendly, patient, and passionate about teaching and inspiring others.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- The successful candidate will teach approximately 4 days per week at community centres in Surrey (Clayton), Langley, and Coquitlam. Classes run in six-week sessions throughout the fall, with occasional weekend workshops.
Fall 2026 Schedule:
- Mondays – Clayton Community Centre (Surrey)
- Adult Garment Sewing Class
- September 21 – November 2
- 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- (No class on Thanksgiving – October 12
- Tuesdays – Kids & Youth Programs
- Clayton Community Centre (Surrey): September 22 – October 27
- Timms Community Centre (Langley): November 3 – December 8
- Kids Class: 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
- Youth Class: 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM
- Wednesdays – Timms Community Centre (Langley)
- Adult Garment Sewing Class
- November 4 – December 9
- 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Thursdays – Coquitlam Community Centre (Tentative)
- Additional Adult, Kids, or Youth Sewing Classes may be offered based on registration.
- Occasional Saturdays
- Creative Sewing, Upcycling, or Fashion Workshops
- Typically 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM
- Scheduled throughout the season as needed.
