Job Title: StoryTent Coordinator

This is an Independent Contractor Position of approximately 6 hours per month at $25 per hour for a maximum of $1,800.

Reports to: Board/Chair of Storytelling Toronto

Location: Storytelling Toronto office, at the Wychwood Barns, 601 Christie Street, Studio 173 and remote.

Duration: 12-month contract with strong possibility for renewal. A 3-month probationary period applies.

Here’s why this position is very key to Storytelling Toronto…

StoryTent is a free open mic storytelling session, facilitated by a professional storyteller (the host). Tellers young and old, novice and experienced, amateur and professional, get together every Saturday morning to share stories, listen and enjoy. It is particularly popular with families of preschoolers and children in primary grades. StoryTent is for people who have never told a story before and want to try it out; tellers who are working on a story and want to see how it lands; tellers with a tale for the young and old; tellers from near and far. All stories are family-friendly.

Before you read further, you’ll need to have…

- Knowledge of oral storytelling for both children and adults
- Understanding of normal development of language,



cognitive, social and motor skills in children
- Experience emceeing and/or facilitating family friendly events
- Experience recruiting, hiring, training and supervising staff and volunteers
- Proven ability to independently and efficiently manage multiple tasks and timelines
- Confident decision-making and collaboration skills when working with others
- Ability to use forms, spreadsheets and digital communication
- Positive interpersonal skills communicating in person and through the computer or phone
- Experience in practices of inclusion in all aspects of engagement

And be able to apply your skills and experience in areas of:

1) Recruiting and Training Storytent Hosts and Apprentices

- Recruit new StoryTent hosts and apprentices
- Ensure that new hosts are oriented to the Studio and the StoryTent expectations
- Develop and deliver training and resource materials for apprentices
- Ensure that all staff and volunteers have received AODA training
- Arrange semi-annual meetings for hosts and apprentices

2) StoryTent Scheduling

- Schedule hosts and apprentices for each Saturday and for special events, as needed
- Work with The Stop Farmer’s market and ArtsHub staff to insure that events are coordinated

3) StoryTent Data Collection and Reporting

- Work closely with the Arts Administrator to monitor weekly StoryTent data collection
- Improve procedures for documenting the successful impact of the StoryTent
- Provide seasonal reports for the Board on the StoryTent
- Provide a report for the Annual General Meeting on the StoryTent program
- Provide input regarding future planning and possible expansion of the StoryTent program

Pay: $25.00 per hour
