Our client, a respected and growing organization in the residential construction industry, is seeking a Senior Accountant – Homes to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys financial reporting, technical accounting, process improvement, and mentoring others in a collaborative environment.
Reporting to finance leadership, you will play a key role in the financial reporting lifecycle for the Homes division, ensuring accurate financial statements, leading period-end close activities, and providing financial insights that support operational and strategic decision-making. You'll also serve as a technical resource for the team while helping develop junior accountants and strengthen reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare, review, and analyze quarterly and annual financial statements for residential construction entities.
- Deliver meaningful financial analysis and insights to support management decision-making.
- Ensure financial reporting accurately reflects corporate structures, legal entities, and active development projects.
Month-End Close & Compliance
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Review financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ASPE, internal controls, and company policies.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting deadlines.
Leadership & Team Development
- Review financial statements, reconciliations, and working papers prepared by intermediate and junior accountants.
- Mentor, coach, and support the professional development of junior team members.
- Act as the accounting subject matter expert for the Homes division, providing guidance on financial reporting, analysis, and accounting processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Robust experience in financial reporting and period-end close processes.
- Solid understanding of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Experience preparing financial statements and performing analytical reviews.
- Advanced analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience using financial reporting and analysis tools such as Solver is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills with a passion for mentoring others.
