Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

Duties include full responsibility for delivery and administration of teaching duties (lecture prep and delivery according to course syllabus; exam prep, delivery, and marking; TA supervision, etc.) for PHYC 4230 – Intro to Solid State Physics (Winter 2027).

This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of solid-state physics that are related to the periodic nature of the crystalline lattice. Topics include chemical bonding, crystal structure and X-ray diffraction, lattice dynamics and thermal properties, the free electron theory of metals, electrons in a periodic potential, semiconductors, and magnetism.

Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 2:30pm to 4:00pm

Reasonable office hours should be available to students.

Position reports to the Chair of the Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

- Candidates must have an advanced degree in Physics (MSc or PhD).
- Critical thinking skills and relevant teaching experience at the University level is required, as well as excellent computing, organization, and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, foster student learning, work collaboratively with diverse faculty and students, and contribute to an inclusive academic environment are required.

Salary Range/Pay Rate

As per CUPE Collective Agreement.
