Job Title: Facility Attendant/Custodian
Position Type: Part-time, on-call, permanent
Hours of Work: guaranteed minimum 4 hours per week with potential additional on-call hours primarily Friday to
Sunday
Wage: $23.50/per hour
Vacation and Benefits: 6% vacation pay paid out plus 4% in lieu of advantages
Start date: July 19, 2026
End date: Ongoing
Responsible/Reports to: Recreation and Facility Coordinator
Work setting: Fairfield Gonzales Community Association (Place Building)
Overall Objectives
The Facility Attendant/Custodian anchors FGCA facility use outside of regular FGCA business hours. This position is
responsible for providing support to community centre program and facility users.
The work will encompass:
- Being the point of contact for rental groups and program clients
- Preparing spaces for renters/programs and cleaning afterwards
- Providing first aid as the active on-site attendant, as required
- Communicating with and reporting to the Recreation & Facility Coordinator and FGCA staff
- Cleaning the facility
Job Description
Building Maintenance and Custodial Duties Checking and securing all FGCA buildings – responsible for program and facility user safety
- Maintaining a clean facility and keeping washrooms well stocked with supplies
- Mopping floors, cleaning public washrooms,
and the commercial kitchen
- Taking on additional cleaning/maintenance tasks as necessary (e.g. program laundry, cleaning dishes, etc.)
- Being available for additional project tasks as assigned by the Recreation and Facility Coordinator
Rental Support Checking condition of facility, pre and post usage by all program users (emptying garbage and
cleaning/stocking washrooms, etc.)
- Providing building access, set-up and restoring rooms, facilitating closing tasks for users
- Being available to users by FGCA Duty phone
FGCA Program Support
- Assisting FGCA instructor or presenter to access their program space as required
- Liaising with FGCA instructors, providing class lists, course materials, and audio/visual aids
- Assisting participants as required
Communicate with Office and Communications Manager and FGCA staff
- Providing feedback to team from community members regarding programs, events, and rentals
- Seeking clarification of duties when necessary
Task Breakdown by Time
- Program/Rental Support: 50%
- Custodial Tasks: 50%
Requirements
- Ability to perform custodial tasks
- Able to lift and move custodial equipment, folding tables and chairs (minimum weight 20kg)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills (i.e. Ability to communicate directions and instructions
to external centre users; ability to prioritize and budget appropriate time for tasks)
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities (i.e. being able to assist centre users with requests to
meet their needs)
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work independently and alone
- Have current First Aid training (minimum CPR Level 1)
- Consent to a Criminal Record Check and acceptable clearance
