YOUR CAREER AT ÉTS
The École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is a rapidly growing engineering and technology university located in downtown Montreal. ÉTS offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs focused on applied engineering, state-of-the-art research infrastructure, and a dynamic and supportive environment. ÉTS is also home to Centech, a technology business incubator that supports entrepreneurs seeking to commercialize innovative technologies.
Make a meaningful contribution to the future of transportation electrification and join the research team led by Professor Benoit Blanchard St‑Jacques!
The successful candidate will join the Power Electronics and Industrial Control Research Group (GRÉPCI), one of Canada's leading research groups in power electronics and energy conversion. The selected candidate will work in a multidisciplinary setting involving faculty members, research professionals, graduate students, and industrial partners.
YOUR ROLE
What impact will you have as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at ÉTS?
The successful candidate will contribute to a research program aimed at pushing the limits of electromechanical energy conversion systems by investigating how interactions among power electronic converters, electrical machines, and control strategies govern conventional trade-offs between efficiency, power density, noise, reliability, and durability. The research will seek to identify the most influential interactions and leverage this knowledge to overcome current limitations of electric propulsion systems and develop transportation electrification technologies that are more efficient, affordable, and sustainable.
The program also promotes the use of advanced numerical methods, multiphysics models,
and artificial intelligence to accelerate the understanding and optimization of electromechanical energy conversion systems.
Beyond their own research activities, the successful candidate will play an active role in the development of the group's scientific program and in the mentoring and supervision of graduate students. We are seeking a curious and ambitious individual interested in advancing an integrated scientific vision of converter–machine systems and their role in sustainable transportation electrification.
REQUIREMENT
Desired Profile:
- Ph.D. obtained within the last five (5) years in electrical engineering or a related field;
- Experience in several of the following areas: electrical machines, power electronics, electric drives, transportation electrification, multiphysics modeling and optimization (thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic);
- Demonstrated expertise in experimental validation;
- Strong publication record in reputable journals and conferences relevant to the field;
- Ability to mobilize, motivate, and coordinate a multidisciplinary team around common scientific objectives in a respectful and supportive environment;
- Ability to contribute to the development of a scientific vision, initiate new research directions, and lead the preparation and coordination of research funding proposals;
- Experience mentoring, supervising, or co-supervising graduate students;
- Proficiency with advanced multiphysics simulation and design tools, including finite-element-based software such as ANSYS,
Siemens Simcenter, Altair, JMAG, or equivalent platforms;
- Ability to effectively integrate artificial intelligence tools to:
o Improve the efficiency of research and scientific development activities;
o Accelerate modeling, simulation, data analysis, and software development;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in French;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
- Excellent adaptability, organizational, analytical, and synthesis skills;
- Open-mindedness and creativity.
Start Date and fellowship duration
The fellowship is expected to begin as soon as possible. An initial six (6) month appointment will be offered and may be extended.
Sending your application
All applications will be treated in strict confidence.
Accommodation measures will be provided throughout the recruitment process for candidates with disabilities.
Each application must include:
- A cover letter;
- A curriculum vitae;
- Examples of recent publications relevant to the position.
IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENTS
In compliance with the immigration requirements in effect in Canada, ÉTS invites all qualified individuals to apply. However, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. When submitting an application, it is important to indicate whether you are able to work in Canada, so that the applicable immigration procedures can be planned accordingly.
Depending on your authorization to work in Canada, the date of your postdoctoral fellowship could be subject to change. To accommodate administrative delay, the starting date can be automatically postponed until September 2024 without affecting the 1 year’s duration. Any additional change would be subject to the professor’s approval.
