Job Summary
The School of Child and Youth Care resides in the Faculty of Human and Social Development and is a four‑year professional degree with three practicum courses. The Practicum Coordinator works closely with on‑campus and distance students in the Child and Youth Care (CYC) program to place them in practicums that match their career aspirations and learning goals. They maintain relationships with community organisations, agencies, schools and government ministries to provide rich learning environments and opportunities for practicum students, and advise the Director, Faculty, and staff on policies and protocols related to practicum and student issues.
Responsibilities
- Place students in local, national, and international practicums.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organisations, agencies, schools, and government ministries.
- Maintain current knowledge of community social services where students reside.
- Develop strategies for practicum opportunities in communities where opportunities are limited.
- Advise on policies and protocols related to practicum and student issues.
- Participate in internal committees focused on marketing and policy development.
- Participate in community groups, steering committees, and education and career fairs.
Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in child & youth care, social work, or clinical psychology, plus 5 years of relevant practice experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and practice experience may be considered.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
- Understanding of practicum placement programs and requests for three different program options.
- Proficiency with university systems such as FAST, Brightspace, Banner, registration systems, online technologies, and distance education tools.
- Demonstrated experience achieving cyclical tasks on time and producing deliverables of high quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders (community agencies, students, practicum instructors).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team workplace.
- Advanced clinical skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students with complex needs.
- Awareness of the effects of colonization on Indigenous people and the impact on Indigenous students.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of university personnel.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Ability and willingness to learn and use new technology.
- Knowledge and awareness of trends in Child and Youth Care practice environments and innovative practice education models is considered an asset.
Salary Information
Recruitment range: $80,369 to $88,612.
Performance range: Up to $104,529.
