The Electrical Designer role at our Calgary office involves design, coordination, and support for electrical and automation systems. This position reports to the Automation Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities

Preliminary electrical control system design development and costing.

Review facility electrical drawings, plot plans, and P&ID; to generate automation and electrical designs.

Prepare and review electrical engineering calculations and drawings: electrical plans, load lists, single‑line diagrams, area classifications, motor control schematics, voltage‑drop calculations, lighting calculations, arc‑flash studies, device coordination, power distribution, panel design, I/O drawings, junction boxes, grounding and instrumentation layout drawings, cable schedules, network diagrams.

Review and approve electrical equipment specifications and data sheets, including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, protection relays, motors, generators.

Develop complete system Bill of Materials.

Prepare and review engineering work packages for construction.

Electrical system testing and support – get hands‑on if necessary.

Manage portions of projects as assigned:

Assist with scoping, quoting, and budgeting.

Materials specification and ordering.

Other general project‑management responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications

Electrical/Computer Engineer with 2‑5 years’ experience in electrical and automation system design, drafting, codes, and design calculations.





Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng. or EIT, or ability to pursue registration.

In‑depth knowledge of CSA, CEC, NEC, IEEE, API and other accepted industry codes and standards.

Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D and 3D).

Working knowledge of SKM (asset).

Working knowledge of ETAP (asset).

Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
