You will play a key role in carrying out responsible construction projects aligned with environmental requirements. In this position, you will monitor environmental impacts on construction sites, work with project teams to ensure compliance with municipal, provincial and federal regulations, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the company’s environmental management practices. You will perform inspections, present findings to contractors and guide corrective actions to reduce risks and improve environmental performance. You will also participate in activities related to ISO 14001:2015, including audits, reports and sustainable development initiatives. This role will allow you to apply your technical expertise to concrete field challenges, influence project decisions and actively contribute to the protection of the environment in the long term.
How you'll make an impact
- Monitor environmental impacts on worksites and support teams to ensure compliance with internal regulations and standards.
- Conduct site inspections, document findings and recommend corrective actions to contractors and project managers.
- Participate in weekly follow-up meetings with the contractor, present issues and follow up on corrective actions.
- Analyze environmental consultants’ reports and make recommendations.
- Support the environmental management system and contribute to improvements in accordance with ISO 14001:2015.
- Participate in internal, external and legal audits, while ensuring the resolution of non-conformities.
- Compile,
analyze and submit regulatory and corporate reports in a timely manner.
- Monitor sampling and propose recommendations based on results.
- Contribute to the sustainable development goals and risk assessments of new projects by providing technical support on environmental issues.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable internal and external regulations, procedures and guidelines.
Your Background
- The applicant must already hold a work permit to work for Hitachi Energy in Canada.
- Minimum of 5 years of environmental experience, including exposure to construction projects.
- Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in ISO 14001:2015 and knowledge of ISO 45001.
- Bachelor's degree in science, environment or related field; a master's degree in education is an asset.
- Internal auditor training: an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively and promote ideas.
- Ability to manage priorities and exercise sound judgment.
- Fluency in oral and written English: an asset.
