Position Description

Casual Child Care Educators assist centre teams in the implementation and delivery of quality play‑based licensed child care programmes that meet the developmental needs of children 0‑12 years of age, while adhering to the YMCA HBB policies and procedures, quality standards, and the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).

The role requires the supervision of children at all times during the programme to ensure health and safety needs are met. Educators must maintain strong positive relationships with school personnel, parents, and other educators.

Must be available for a minimum of three days per week and will be scheduled on an as‑needed basis.

What You’ll Do

- Assist in planning, organising and leading activities for children 0‑12 years to meet developmental needs, ranging from 10 to 90 children in attendance.
- Understand and comply with all regulatory items as per the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), YMCA, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, and other governing bodies.
- Maintain child health and safety at all times; identify hazards and implement preventative plans.




- Complete required documentation of children’s development and activities, and perform assigned administrative tasks.
- Assist with children’s bathroom routines, changing soiled clothing or diapers, and participating in snack/mealtimes.
- Apply appropriate behaviour guidance techniques in all interactions with children.
- Assume leadership of the programme in the absence of the Facilitator/RECE and/or Assistant.
- Communicate positively with parents, school personnel and community contacts.
- Participate in association‑wide events, attend monthly meetings and professional learning sessions.
- Prepare and set up equipment in shared space on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis.
- Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late afternoons and split‑shifts; hours may fluctuate to meet operational needs.
- Must not be guaranteed shifts but should be available for a minimum of three days per week.
- Maintain ongoing communication with coach to receive shifts from regular part‑time educators.
- Use frequent light to medium physical effort, lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending, stooping, carrying, pushing and pulling.
- Be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year‑round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold.

Mandatory Qualifications

- A minimum of 12 months experience working with children (paid work, volunteering, placements or a combination).
- Familiarity with developmental needs of children aged 0‑12 years.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‐building skills; ability to establish rapport with children, families, staff/volunteers and community partners.




- Solid proficiency in spoken and written English to communicate effectively and maintain accurate documentation.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR‑C & AED certification (Level C).
- Current and satisfactory Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
- May be required to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

- Completion of a degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education.
- Membership in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Some post‑college education or better in Early Childhood Education.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Early Childhood Education.

Travel Required

Yes. Ability to commute to and from centres and meetings across Brantford.
