We are seeking an experienced and well-regarded Risk Engineer with 5+ years of insurance or industry experience to join our growing Canadian team. This is a value-adding role suited to an engineering professional with strong technical expertise. Responsibilities Produce detailed risk engineering assessments of complex, high hazard industrial and commercial operations, translating technical insights into practical loss prevention strategies that support profitable underwriting decisions. Conduct both on site and virtual risk surveys, as well as desk-based engineering reviews, delivering consistent, high quality technical input across a diverse portfolio. Develop clear, comprehensive risk evaluation reports using proprietary tools, effectively conveying risk characteristics, loss potential, existing controls, and prioritized recommendations to underwriting, clients, and brokers. Partner closely with underwriting teams to provide expert engineering guidance, deepen technical understanding of risks, and support informed risk selection, pricing, and portfolio growth. Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, collaborating with them to design and implement preventative measures that reduce exposures and strengthen long-term risk quality. Present engineering findings and recommendations to key internal and external stakeholders,
aligning technical risk insights with business objectives. Actively support client and broker meetings, reinforcing HDI’s technical credibility and value proposition in the market. Collaborate with management and underwriting leadership to continuously enhance risk engineering processes, drive efficiency, and elevate overall service quality. Contribute to business development and brand visibility by representing HDI at industry conferences, client events, and professional forums, sharing technical expertise and market insights. Profile (Skills, Qualifications & Experience) 5+ years of insurance or industry experience Licensed Professional Engineer Chemical engineer experienced in Chemical and Property surveys preferred Willing to expand knowledge/scope into other areas such as Steel and Mining Proficient in working with NFPA Codes.
