Job Information Job Title: Crown ProsecutorLocation: Edmonton or CalgaryFull or Part-Time: Full TimeHours of Work: 3 Days/3 Evenings/3 Days OffPermanent/Temporary: Temporary (May 2027)Classification: Crown Prosecutor 1 - 2Salary:CP1 $3,947.31 to $4,972.47 bi-weekly|CP2 $5,593.60 to $6,764.60 bi-weeklyRole ResponsibilitiesActing as counsel at first instance bail hearings before the Hearing Office.Quickly and efficiently reviewing and screening files for positions on bail, bail revocation, detention, missing information and accompanying supplementary orders.Quickly and efficiently reviewing documentary evidence, advising police on required information/documents and replacement charges.Conducting bail applications and making appropriate bail related applications before Justices of the Peace (virtually).Working as part of a team of prosecutors bringing accused individuals before the Justice of the Peace for a meaningful appearance as soon as possible, with a common goal of no later than 24 hours after arrest.Applying Decisions to Prosecute Guideline as appropriate.Conducting resolution discussions, recommending pleas and conducting sentencing of matters within the jurisdiction of a Justice of the Peace where appropriate.Documenting positions, delays, applications, and outcomes.Following up with stakeholders when issues arise.Conducting legal research, writing and presentation.Preparing recommendations for bail review or extraordinary remedies (writs) where warranted.Timely reporting of issues to the Team Lead, Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Chief Prosecutor.Advising investigating agencies of results where required.Appearing in court and making appropriate submissions on release or detention.APS CompetenciesAgility – Must be able to anticipate, assess, and readily adapt to changing priorities, maintain resilience,



and work effectively in changing environments.Drive for Results – Sets goals and prioritizes work to accomplish them, follows through on duties and tasks and reports on progress.Develop Self and Others – Desire to invest in the development of the long-term capability of self and others.Build Collaborative Environments – Leads and contributes to the conditions and environments that allow people to work collaboratively and productively to achieve outcomes.Develop Networks – Proactively builds networks, connects and builds trust in relationships with different stakeholders.Systems Thinking – Understands how work contributes to the achievement of departmental goals, anticipates changes in own area based on activities in other areas.Creative Problem Solving – Has the ability to assess options and implications in new ways to achieve outcomes and solutions.QualificationsCrown Prosecutor 1: 0–4 years of legal experience required.Crown Prosecutor 2: minimum 4 years of legal experience required.A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD), with at least 8 months of related experience.An active member or eligible for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta.Prior experience conducting bail hearings.Valuable knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and processes specifically relating to bail.Provide a cover letter addressed to this bails position.AssetsProficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).Proficiency with Adobe, Westlaw and CanLII.Current criminal law understanding & experience.High attention to detail.Ability to work quickly in a high-pressure environment.Ability to work as part of a team.Shift Details Shifts: 3 days, 3 evenings, 3 days off.Day Shift: 8 am – 4 pmEvening Shift: 4 pm – MidnightAdditional Requirements All final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.#J-18808-Ljbffr
