Int/Sr Network Infrastructure Engineer to Support Enterprise Network Infrastructure for Automotive Manufacturing Client

Location: Cambridge, ON (primarily on-site, up to 1 day/week remote when possible)

Type: Contract - Immediate Start, Annual renewals in April based on performance

Industry: Automotive Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client, a leading Canadian automotive manufacturer, is looking for a Network Infrastructure Engineer to join their Information Systems Engineering team. This is a hands-on enterprise networking role supporting manufacturing, corporate, and data center operations across two production facilities.

You'll be responsible for the design, implementation, support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of the organization's network infrastructure in a production-critical environment where uptime directly impacts manufacturing operations. The team values people who can work independently, think on their feet, document their work clearly, and take ownership from problem identification through to resolution.

This role has a strong track record of long-term contractor retention - several contractors have been with the team for 5+ years - and annual renewal decisions are based on performance.

What You'll Do

- Design, implement, and support enterprise Cisco network infrastructure across switching, routing, wireless, and security layers
- Administer and maintain Cisco Catalyst Layer 2/3 switching environments including STP, HSRP/VRRP, EtherChannel, and VLAN design
- Configure and troubleshoot routing protocols and WAN connectivity
- Administer Palo Alto firewall policies, rules, and security segmentation
- Support Cisco Wireless infrastructure and manage Cisco Catalyst Center (formerly DNA Center)
- Manage network access control via Cisco ISE
- Monitor network health and respond to incidents using SolarWinds and other network monitoring tools
- Manage DNS/DHCP services and fiber infrastructure across both facilities
- Lead or support network projects end to end - from design and implementation through documentation and handover
- Participate in after-hours and weekend maintenance windows and on-call support rotation
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves

- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst Layer 2/3 switching (Catalyst 9300 series preferred)
- Solid routing fundamentals - OSPF, BGP, static routing, route redistribution, STP, HSRP/VRRP, VLAN design
- Experience with network security and segmentation - ACLs, VRFs, IPSec VPN tunnels, NAC

- Palo Alto firewall administration experience
- DNS/DHCP management in enterprise environments
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills - comfortable working in production environments where issues need to be resolved quickly and correctly
- Clear documentation and technical communication skills
- Change management experience - comfortable working within formal CAB/ITIL processes
- Self-directed - able to manage workload independently with minimal oversight

Nice-to-Have

- Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine)
- Cisco Wireless (Wi-Fi 6/7)
- Cisco Nexus platform experience (data center switching)
- Primarily on-site in Cambridge, ON with up to 1 day/week remote
- Woodstock facility rotation approximately 1-2 days per month for on-site network support
- After-hours and weekend work required for maintenance windows and on-call incident support
- Equipment provided (iPhone and laptop)
- Team manages their own hours - weekend work is offset with reduced hours during the week

Location: Cambridge, ON (primarily on-site, up to 1 day/week remote when possible)

Woodstock, ON rotation (1-2 days per month)
