Responsibilities
- Provide inspection and construction supervision on Class 1 railway projects.
- Maintain accurate daily diary entries and complete contract documentation records.
- Maintain daily photographic records and videos as necessary to document contract activities.
- Complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment.
- Complete daily inspections in accordance with client requirements and expectations.
- Monitor construction work to ensure it complies with contract documents and specifications.
- Monitor the contractor’s compliance with health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation.
- Supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works.
- Report to the Project Manager onsite activities, concerns, and non‑conformances, and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Provide mentorship to junior staff.
- Liaise with client representatives, as required.
- Act as client site representative.
- Require working nights, weekends, and extended shifts.
- Work may be seasonal in nature, as work permits.
- Other duties as assigned.
The role of Civil Construction Inspector, Rail is a casual, temporary, as‑needed position. There will not be a set schedule but the employee will be notified when work is available.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with engineering or construction.
- Preferred previous experience working with CN Rail and CPKC Rail projects.
- Previous experience working on municipal or provincial transportation projects would be an asset but not required.
- Be able to read and interpret construction design drawings.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently in remote locations.
- Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Valid license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
Required Qualifications
- Requires high school diploma or equivalent. (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
- A minimum of 3 years experience.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
- Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- The pay range for Ontario: $74,000 - $105,000.
Location
Primary Location: Canada‑Ontario‑Toronto; Other Locations: Canada‑Ontario‑Richmond Hill, Canada‑Ontario‑Burlington.
