Role Overview

The Operations Manager – Local will be responsible for leading the day-to-day dispatch and driver performance of Seaport’s local drayage operations, ensuring trucks are utilized efficiently and service commitments are consistently met. More specifically, this role drives continuous improvement of dispatch processes and systems, manages the performance and experience of an in-house fleet of drivers and owner operators, and partners closely with customer service to deliver seamless, cost-effective execution across multiple locations.

Compensation

$85,000 – $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Key Accountabilities

- Lead daily dispatch operations to fully optimize truck utilization, productivity, and on-time performance.
- Partner closely with the customer service team to plan service effectively and resolve driver and customer issues quickly.
- Manage the performance, experience, and retention of in-house drivers and owner operators, ensuring work is distributed fairly and equitably.
- Own the driver performance program – track, organize, and continually improve driver metrics to maximize output and the driver experience.
- Oversee the effective utilization of equipment such as chassis, gensets, and trucks, and manage subhauler (third-party)



relationships and performance.
- Manage costs related to driver activities and equipment usage, minimizing variable expenses while fully capturing applicable revenue.
- Ensure team compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, including safety standards, weight restrictions, and driver hours of service.
- Lead driver onboarding and orientation, dispute resolution, and rate negotiations in new lanes to ensure fair, mutually beneficial agreements.
- Apply a lean approach to evaluate and continuously improve dispatch processes, leveraging the TMS and other technology to drive automation and efficiency.

Qualifications

- 5+ years of logistics and dispatch management experience.
- Post-secondary degree,



preferably in transportation and logistics.
- Proven strengths in planning, analytical thinking, problem solving, and dispute resolution.
- Intermediate MS Office skills and comfort working in a transportation management system (TMS) and other dispatch software.
- English language proficiency.
- In-office a minimum of three days per week.
- Travel to Montreal one week per month to connect with the Local fleet and customers, as necessary.
