Overview The incumbent is to function as the Social Worker in a small specialized multi-disciplinary Provincial Team providing assessment, consultation, and behavioural intervention in high need, high complexity child and youth mental health and addictions cases. This position has a special focus on child mental health, behaviour management and family therapy. The incumbent is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy and independence, have an advanced understanding of mental health problems and their treatment, independently implement assessment and treatment, and seek consultation and input when indicated. This position reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Behavioural Support Team. Duties will include: contributing to accurately diagnosing or classifying the client’s condition taking into consideration the environmental, individual, family and social perspective by examining the client’s emotional situation, assessing the client’s family support system, and consulting and utilizing expert knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Disorders; developing trusting and productive communication with clients who are presenting a wide variety of symptoms and/or behaviours; develop evidenced based mental health treatment plans that will deal with the issues, complaints, and problems presented by the client by educating clients about their illness, consulting with medical, legal and other skilled practitioners and encouraging and facilitating productive communication with the client; provide directcare to children, adolescents, their families/caregivers; responding to and dealing with urgent calls of clients and their families in a crisis situation; providing expert consultation, within a multi-disciplinary team,
to other services within the region and within the health care system and to various agencies in the community; offeringadvice and feedback on the advisability of courses of action to other health care and other social service professionals and support services; maintaining and protecting confidential records and case reporting as part of the case management process; ensuringcompletion of the client record in the EMR; providing staff training, workshops and information sessions to the community and other health care professionals; participating in public relations activities to raise awareness and promote mental health; other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work plus considerable related experience in a mental health setting and the treatment of disruptive behaviour conditions. Experience with child and parent, family and group therapy are required. Must be eligible for registration with the PEI Social Work Registration Board. Registration is a requirement for employment. Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders 5 and other relevant Federal and Provincial statutes and acts. Must be able to operate with a high degree of autonomy and independence. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record. Access to reliable transportation Other Qualifications Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
